Job summary

Celonis is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to contribute to cloud-based projects. You will build and scale microservices using Java, Spring, and JPA/Hibernate, and work on data pipelines with Databricks and Spark. The role demands cloud-native design, Kubernetes expertise, and a generalist DevOps mindset.

You’ll collaborate across engineers, PMs, and designers, drive end-to-end solutions across geographies, and continuously improve practices while learning new technologies and approaches.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a technical field or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of backend engineering, with microservices and Java/Spring expertise.
• Experience building data pipelines with Databricks, ETL, or Apache Spark.
• Relational databases experience; PostgreSQL is a plus.
• Cloud-native distributed systems with Kubernetes and hyperscalers (AWS).
• Generalist skills across DevOps and cloud infrastructure; strong design skills.

The Qualifications You Need

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a technical field (e.g., Computer Science, Software Engineering) or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of experience as a Backend Engineer with strong expertise in building microservices‑based products using Java, Spring framework, JPA, and Hibernate.
• Experience building data pipelines in Databricks, ETL, or Apache Spark.
• Relational database experience; PostgreSQL is a plus.
• Proficient in building cloud‑native distributed systems.
• Generalist skill set across multiple technical areas beyond Backend, including DevOps and Cloud Infrastructure.
• Ability to analyse and design complex software.
• Experience building scalable, fault‑tolerant distributed systems.
• Proven background in building cloud‑native software in the Kubernetes ecosystem, as well as on hyperscalers such as AWS.
• Deep understanding of modern engineering practices (Git strategy, CI/CD, testing, etc.) and how to apply them to enable teams of multiple engineers.
• Problem‑first attitude: able to understand customer needs and see technology as a means to an end.
• Ability to quickly learn new things without tight supervision.
• Problem‑solving attitude.
• Collaborative team spirit.
