Job summary

Cvent is seeking a Backend Engineer for its Data Team focused on AI Services. The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of Python and FastAPI and strong experience with AI/LLM integrations.

You will build scalable backend services, design robust REST APIs, and implement secure authentication using OAuth 2.0, contributing to production-grade AI workflows.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent work experience.
• 5+ years of experience as a Software Engineer in production environments.
• Strong hands-on experience with Python (FastAPI preferred).
• Familiarity with AI/LLM concepts including prompt engineering and API integrations with OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar platforms.
• Experience building scalable distributed microservices and enterprise backend systems.
• Experience using AI tools to deliver good quality solutions.
• Strong understanding of REST APIs, OAuth 2.0, and API security.
• Experience building production-quality systems with proper error handling, retries, logging, and observability.
• Hands-on exposure to Azure or GCP cloud platforms.
• Fluent in written and spoken English.

Responsibilities

About the Role:

Cvent's R&D is currently looking for a talented Backend Engineer to join our Data Team, focused on AI Services. The ideal candidate should have a deep understanding of Python, FastAPI, LLM integrations, and prompt engineering, with experience building production-grade AI workflows using OpenAI and Anthropic frontier models. You should be a self-starter capable of taking ambiguous requirements and coming up with a viable solution. You should also be able to design scalable, high-performance backend services that power our AI initiatives based on business priorities. You will work closely with a cross-functional team to design, build, maintain and support our AI Services platform.

In This Role, You Will:

• Design solutions to complex problems, that are flexible, robust, and take into account business needs.
• Work with a modern Python (FastAPI) and LLM integration tech stack.
• Build distributed backend microservices and REST APIs with secure authentication and authorization using OAuth 2.0.
• Develop and maintain AI/LLM integrations including OpenAI, Anthropic, prompt engineering, and AI workflow orchestration.
• Build reliable production-quality systems with proper error handling, retries, logging, monitoring, and observability.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues across cloud-hosted distributed services.
• Be communicative and reliable, so that others can depend on you.
• Delivery of features, improvements, and fixes in a timely, predictable cadence.
• Collaborate with some of the best engineers in the industry to work on complex Software as a Service (SaaS) based applications.

Here's What You Need:

Primary Skills:

• Bachelor's+ in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience

• Excellent troubleshooting skills, with the ability to root cause and resolve complex production issues independently.
• Hands-on exposure to Azure or GCP cloud platforms.
• Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, agile environment and result-oriented culture.
• Fluent in written and spoken English.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with OpenAI SDKs, Anthropic APIs, LangChain, vector databases, or AI orchestration frameworks.
• Experience with SQL and relational databases (PostgreSQL, Oracle, or similar).
• Experience with Kibana, Grafana, ELK stack, or cloud monitoring/observability tools.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-native deployments.
