Job summary

Terumo Penpol, part of the Terumo Group, in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, seeks a Senior Software Engineer to design, develop, and maintain safety-critical medical device software through the product lifecycle. Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, electronics or related field.
• 6–15 years of software development experience.
• Embedded product development experience preferred, especially for medical devices.
• Strong proficiency in C++ (C++17 or later).
• Experience with Yocto framework and OS customization.
• Experience in developing UI applications using Qt/QML.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, integration, and maintenance of medical device software applications.
• Drive software architecture, design reviews, code reviews, and technical decision-making.
• Develop high-quality, maintainable software on Embedded Linux/Linux platforms.
• Collaborate with systems, firmware, hardware, QA, regulatory, and product teams.
• Ensure compliance with IEC 62304, ISO 14971, IEC 60601-1, and FDA guidance.
• Define software requirements, architecture, design specifications, and documentation.
• Support risk analysis, cybersecurity assessments, and software verification activities.
• Mentor engineers and drive software project execution and delivery.
• Participate in estimation, planning, and process improvements (CI/CD, quality).
• Lead continuous improvement in software development processes and quality practices.

JOB TITLE: Sr. Software Engineer

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining safety-critical software solutions throughout the product lifecycle. Leads software architecture, embedded systems development, verification and validation activities, and regulatory compliance efforts in accordance with IEC 62304, ISO 13485, and FDA requirements. Collaborates with cross-functional teams including systems, hardware, quality, and regulatory engineering to deliver reliable, secure, and compliant medical devices. Provides technical leadership, mentors engineering teams, drives process improvements, and ensures successful product development from concept through commercialization and post-market support.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education

• Bachelor's or master’s degree in computer science, Electronics or a related field.

Experience

• 6 to 15 years of software development experience.
• Experience in embedded product development and design.
• Experience in medical device software development preferred.

Skills

• Strong proficiency in C++ (C++17 or later).
• Experience in Yocto framework and OS customization.
• Having Experience in developing UI applications using QT/QML.
• Strong understanding of software architecture and design patterns.
• Experience with multithreading, IPC, networking, and system-level programming.
• Experience with version control systems such as Git.
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
• Experience leading technical teams and driving software projects.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of IEC 62304, ISO 14971, IEC 60601-1, and FDA software guidance.
• Experience with cyber-security requirements and secure software development practices.
• Experience with CI/CD tools and automated testing frameworks.
• Knowledge of Agile/Scrum development methodologies.
