Senior Software Engineer

Job Title: Senior Software Engineer
Location: Hybrid (Headquarters / Customer sites)
Reporting to: Software or Engineering Department Manager / Project Manager
Contract: Permanent

Role Overview

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer specialized in Baggage Handling Systems (BHS) to configure, customize, and deploy our BAGsort (SAC Sortation and Allocation Control) software solution.

This role focuses on adapting a standard BHS software product to airport-specific operational constraints, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant baggage sortation in live airport environments.

Key Responsibilities

BAGsort (SAC) Configuration & Integration

• Analyze airport operational requirements (flights, piers, make-up carousels, early bags, rush bags, security flows).
• Configure and parameterize the BAGsort (SAC) software according to airport rules, topology, and operational concepts.
• Define baggage allocation, sortation logic, priorities, and fallback strategies.
• Integrate BAGsort with:
• PLC-controlled conveyors and sorters,
• HBS / EDS screening systems,
• AODB, DCS, and airport IT interfaces.
• Support software behavior tuning for performance and robustness.

Project Execution & Testing

• Contribute to functional and technical specifications for BHS projects.
• Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT).
• Support system commissioning and ramp-up phases at airport sites.
• Investigate and resolve software and operational issues during testing and operation.
• Ensure compliance with project milestones, quality, and safety constraints.

Documentation & Knowledge Transfer

• Produce configuration documents, operational rules, and test procedures.
• Support training of airport operators and maintenance teams.
• Share feedback to improve BAGsort product standard and future releases.

Support & Continuous Improvement

• Provide level 2/3 support during project and warranty phases.
• Participate in on-call rotations if required.
• Propose improvements to BAGsort configuration tools and methodologies.
• Contribute to R&D and product roadmap discussions related to SAC and BHS evolution.

Required Skills & Experience

Technical Skills

• Strong experience in Baggage Handling Systems (BHS) or airport automation.
• Proven expertise in software configuration and system integration.
• Good knowledge of:
• SQL / T-SQL and databases,
• Linux environments,
• Industrial IT architectures.
• Familiarity with PLC-controlled systems and interfaces.
• Experience with version control tools (Git).

Experience

• 5+ years of experience in industrial or airport software projects.
• Hands-on experience with SAC, sortation logic, or baggage allocation systems is mandatory.
• Ability to work autonomously and take technical leadership on complex projects.
