Job summary

Persistent Systems in Bengaluru invites a hands-on Senior Software Engineer to build secure, scalable backend systems in Java and Python and to design agentic AI solutions using Google ADK.

You will implement MCP-based tool integrations, deliver end-to-end LLM features, containerize with Docker/Kubernetes, and collaborate across product, security, and data teams while mentoring colleagues.

Qualifications

• 8–12 years of hands-on backend software engineering experience.
• Strong Java (17+), Spring Boot, and API design skills.
• Production Python services experience (FastAPI/Flask/Django) and AI workflow automation.
• Experience integrating LLMs and agent patterns; MCP and Google ADK familiarity.
• Containerization with Docker and Kubernetes/OpenShift; CI/CD familiarity.
• Security fundamentals including OAuth2/OIDC, JWT, and secrets management.

We are looking for a hands-on Senior Software Engineer who can build secure, scalable backend systems in Java and Python, and who is equally comfortable designing agentic AI solutions using Google ADK, integrating LLMs, and implementing Model Context Protocol (MCP)-based tools/servers. This role blends modern microservices engineering with practical GenAI delivery shipping production-grade agents that can reason, call tools, retrieve knowledge, and safely generate or transform code.

What You'll Do:

• Build high-scale backend services using Java 17+, Spring Boot, and REST/gRPC patterns focusing on reliability, security, and performance.
• Develop Python services (e.g., FastAPI) to power AI workflows, tool endpoints, and orchestration components used by agents.
• Design and implement agentic workflows (planning, memory, retrieval, tool-use) using Google ADK and modern agent patterns (single-agent and multi-agent).
• Implement MCP-based tool integrations, including defining tool schemas, building MCP servers (Java/Python), enabling agent-to-service connectivity, and validating tool behavior with real environments. (MCP concepts are actively used in our internal agentic learning materials).
• Deliver LLM features end-to-end: prompt design, function calling/tool invocation, RAG pipelines, response grounding, guardrails, and evaluation strategies for quality and safety.
• Enable code generation workflows: build features where agents assist with code scaffolding, refactoring, unit test generation, secure coding fixes, and CI checkswhile ensuring human oversight and governance.
• Work with data stores (relational + NoSQL) and support vector search / embeddings for semantic retrieval use cases.
• Containerize and deploy services using Docker and Kubernetes/OpenShift, and contribute to CI/CD automation and release governance.
• Operationalize with observability (metrics, tracing, logs), SLOs/SLIs, incident response, and performance tuning.
• Collaborate with product, security, cloud, and data teams; participate in Agile ceremonies; mentor engineers and drive engineering excellence.

Expertise You'll Bring:

• Strong professional experience in Java (6+ years), Spring Boot, microservices, API design, and backend architecture.
• Solid Python experience building production services (FastAPI/Flask/Django) and automation components for AI/agent workflows.
• Practical experience integrating LLMs in applications (prompting, tool/function calling, safety considerations, evaluation).
• Working knowledge of agentic patterns (planning, memory, retrieval/RAG, tool routing) and comfort building agents that can execute tasks reliably.
• Familiarity or hands-on experience with Google ADK (agent definition, workflows, tools, guardrails) and using it to build deployable agents.
• (Internal solution artifacts use Google ADK for agent creation and guardrails.) Understanding of MCP concepts and ability to implement/consume MCP tools/servers for agent integrations.
• Strong security fundamentals: authN/authZ, OAuth2/OIDC, JWT, secure coding, secrets management, and threat-aware design.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes/OpenShift, and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions).
• Nice-to-have Experience with vector databases, embeddings, semantic search, and evaluation/observability for LLM systems.
• Bachelors degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related discipline, as applicable for the role.
