Job summary

We are currently seeking a Snowflake Data Engineer to join our team in bengaluru, Karnātaka (IN-KA), India (IN).

Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer with 7+ years of experience in data engineering, including strong hands-on expertise in Snowflake and dbt (Data Build Tool). The role will support a data transformation and modernization program, migrating data from legacy source systems to a cloud-based data platform. The candidate will design, develop, test, and maintain scalable ELT pipelines and curated data layers (including L2/L3 transformation and consumption layers) in Snowflake. The role requires strong SQL, data modeling, data quality, performance optimization, migration, and production support capabilities. Experience with Fivetran is preferred but not mandatory.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain scalable data pipelines and transformation solutions using Snowflake and dbt.
• Build and manage L2/L3 data layers, including cleansed, conformed, curated, and business-ready datasets for analytics and reporting.
• Develop dbt models, macros, tests, snapshots, seeds, documentation, and reusable transformation frameworks.
• Design and implement ELT pipelines to ingest data from legacy applications, databases, files, APIs, and other enterprise source systems into Snowflake.
• Support legacy-to-cloud data migration activities, including source data profiling, source-to-target mapping, transformation logic, reconciliation, validation, and cutover support.
• Develop complex and optimized SQL queries, views, stored procedures, tasks, streams, and dynamic tables in Snowflake.
• Design and maintain dimensional data models, including fact tables, dimension tables, star schemas, snowflake schemas, and Slowly Changing Dimensions.
• Implement data quality checks, dbt tests, reconciliation controls, audit mechanisms, and exception-handling processes to ensure data accuracy and completeness.
• Optimize Snowflake performance and cost through efficient SQL, warehouse sizing, workload management, query profiling, clustering strategies, and resource monitoring.
• Configure and maintain Snowflake security and governance controls, including role-based access control, masking policies, row access policies, secure views, and data-sharing capabilities.
• Collaborate with data architects, business analysts, source-system teams, QA teams, and reporting teams to understand requirements and deliver end-to-end data solutions.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, including data models, source-to-target mappings, transformation rules, pipeline workflows, deployment procedures, and operational runbooks.
• Provide L2/L3 production support for Snowflake and dbt workloads, including incident resolution, root-cause analysis, performance troubleshooting, and defect fixes.

Required Skills & Experience

• 7+ years of experience in data engineering, data warehousing, ETL/ELT development, or related data platform roles.
• Minimum 3+ years of hands-on experience in Snowflake development, implementation, and performance optimization.
• Strong hands-on experience with dbt Core and/or dbt Cloud, including models, sources, tests, macros, snapshots, packages, and documentation.
• Advanced SQL skills with experience in complex query writing, query tuning, CTEs, window functions, stored procedures, and performance analysis.
• Strong understanding of Snowflake architecture, including virtual warehouses, databases, schemas, stages, file formats, Snowpipe, streams, tasks, Time Travel, cloning, and data sharing.
• Experience in building and maintaining L2/L3 transformation layers, curated data marts, and reporting-ready datasets.
• Strong understanding of data modeling concepts, including dimensional modeling, star schema, snowflake schema, fact and dimension tables, and SCD Type 1/Type 2.
• Proven experience in legacy data migration, including data profiling, source-to-target mapping, data cleansing, transformation, validation, and reconciliation.
• Experience with ELT/ETL pipeline development and integrating data from databases, flat files, APIs, SaaS applications, and enterprise source systems.
• Experience with Snowflake security, including RBAC, role hierarchy, data masking, row-level access controls, and secure data access practices.
• Knowledge of at least one cloud platform—AWS, Azure, or GCP—and its integration with Snowflake.
• Experience with Python and/or Shell scripting, Git-based version control, and CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or GitLab CI.
• Experience with Fivetran or similar ingestion tools is preferred; exposure to orchestration tools such as Airflow, Azure Data Factory, dbt Cloud jobs, or Control-M is an added advantage.
