Emerson invites applications for a mechanical engineer specializing in finite element analysis of valve components. The role involves performing static, fatigue, thermal, and pressure analyses, plus FSI/CFD–FEA coupling to predict stresses and vibrations.
You will correlate simulations with experimental data, advise on design improvements, and support manufacturability and cost efficiency. Prior valve experience and international standards knowledge are preferred.
Work with the Global Engineering team and technical leads to perform FEA on valve components, assemblies with the goal to provide design and development recommendations. The simulation is giving guidance how to reduce weight of components and assemblies.
Conduct linear and nonlinear structural analyses, including:
Static stress analysis
Fatigue and life assessment
Thermal stress analysis
Contact and sealing simulations
Evaluate valve performance under high pressure, temperature, and corrosive environments.
Perform fluid-structure interaction (FSI) or support CFD–FEA coupling for flow-induced stresses and vibrations.
Provide recommendations for improving:
Structural integrity
Sealing performance
Manufacturability
Cost efficiency
Support product development from concept to validation
Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards such as:
ASME (e.g., Section VIII, B16 series)
API (e.g., API 6D, API 600, API 602)
ISO and PED requirements
Conduct analyses for pressure boundary qualification and safety factors.
Correlate simulation results with experimental data (pressure tests, burst tests, fatigue testing).
Support root cause analysis (RCA) for field failures and non-conformances.
Develop and maintain simulation validation methodologies
You consistently deliver high-quality work by applying strong analytical thinking and sound engineering judgment. You collaborate effectively across diverse teams and build productive relationships with stakeholders worldwide. You readily adapt to new challenges, embrace innovative technologies, and continuously seek opportunities to improve processes and outcomes. You communicate technical concepts clearly, make informed recommendations, and remain focused on achieving results that support broader organizational objectives.
Proven experience of using FEA tools like Ansys, Abaqus
Develop scripts or automation to improve simulation efficiency
Knowledge of international standards for pressure equipment, such as ASME, API, EN, ISO (PED), BS valve standards
Excellent working experience in CAD software, such as Inventor, AutoCAD, Solidworks
Knowledge and experience in design for manufacturability using machining processes is essential, with experience in casting design considered an advantage
Strong knowledge of solid mechanics and material behaviour, nonlinear analysis, fatigue and fracture mechanics
Strong communication skills
Must be well organized, detail oriented and capable of handling multiple tasks simultaneously.
Willingness to work outside traditional work hours to interact with supporting locations globally
Advanced degree in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering discipline
English fluent – verbal and writing, any additional language is a plus Minimum Work Experience Required:
Min. of 5 years related FEA experience with min. of 2 years in the area of industrial valves
Experience in matrix organization with skip level reporting
Experience working with remote/global teams Travel:
Be willing to travel to global business locations as needed
