Job summary

Pythian in India seeks a senior network security engineer to manage complex security and networking issues, with hands-on expertise in FMC/FTD, VPNs, SSL certificates, and SD-WAN integration.

You will implement security policies, ACLs/NAT, and work across Cisco Catalyst/Nexus and Arista environments while coordinating with global clients and maintaining high service levels.

Qualifications

• 5–10 years in implementing and managing multi-vendor network solutions.
• Expert-level routing and switching.
• Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, VPN technologies (IPSec, Remote VPN).
• Expert-level experience with Cisco FMC and other Cisco security products.
• Experience collaborating with global clients (US, Europe, APAC).
• Excellent communication skills and ability to manage multiple projects.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and resolve network security and performance issues across LAN/WAN.
• Implement security measures: firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, security policies.
• Create and manage ACLs, NAT rules, encryption strategies for secure communications.
• Configure SD-WAN, site-to-site and remote access VPNs using FMC/FTD.
• Manage SSL certificate lifecycle: CSR, renewal, installation and troubleshooting.
• Provide client-facing support, incident response, and escalation handling.
• Liaise with multi-vendor equipment (Cisco, Arista) and ensure interoperability.

Role & responsibilities

This position is accountable for ensuring:

• Strong hands-on experience in handling, troubleshooting network and security-related issues.
• In-depth knowledge of Cisco FMC and FTD platforms, including installation, configuration, management, and troubleshooting.
• Evaluate diverse security risks in a fast-moving environment and be technically capable of suggesting and carrying out remediation, in accordance with Cisco''s security policies and standards.
• Implement security measures on network infrastructure, such as firewalls, VPNs, intrusion detection and prevention systems, and security policies
• Create and implement security policies, access control lists (ACLs), and NAT rules to ensure secure communication across the network.
• Implement and configure VPN technologies, including site-to-site and remote access VPNs, using FMC/FTD.
• Experience with SSL certificate management, including CSR generation, certificate renewal, installation, and troubleshooting.
• Troubleshoot and resolve network security issues related to FTD firewalls.
• Provide support for network security incidents, including malware detection, DDoS attacks, and firewall policy conflicts.
• Expert knowledge of advanced security features such as intrusion prevention, URL filtering, and malware analysis.
• Extensive working experience on Cisco Catalyst and Nexus switches, along with Arista Cloud based and Routing.
• Expert knowledge of ARP, MAC Address Table, VLAN, Spanning Tree Protocol, Ether channel, Switch Stacking, HSRP/VRRP, Access Lists (ACL), and NAT.
• Hands-on experience in Enterprise LAN and WAN configuration and troubleshooting.
• Good to have experience on any Software Defined Networking solution, i.e. Cisco/Viptela/Versa SD-WAN
• Configure network policies, application performance optimization, and dynamic path selection using SD-WAN.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to SD-WAN, including connectivity, security policies, and application performance.
• Implement security policies and ensure secure communication between SD-WAN sites using Versa's integrated security features, such as encryption, secure tunneling, and firewall integration.
• Independently drive P2/P1 Technical calls from the network's end, demonstrating exceptional communication and problem-solving skills to de-escalate situations and provide clear, concise updates to clients.
• Excellent client-facing communication skills and the ability to handle and manage client interactions and escalations independently, ensuring client satisfaction and timely resolution of critical issues.

Preferred candidate profile

• 5 - 10 years of experience in implementing and managing multi-vendor network solutions.
• Expert-level experience in Routing and Switching.
• Strong knowledge of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, VPN technologies (IPSec, Remote VPN), and routing/switching principles.
• Expert-level experience in Cisco Firepower Management Center (FMC) and other Cisco security products.
• Prior experience collaborating with global clients from US, Europe, and APAC regions
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a proven ability to manage client expectations and handle high-pressure situations effectively.
• Must be able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on delivering effective solutions and managing client escalations efficiently.
• A relevant certification in security is an asset.
