Job Description

Senior Resident - General Surgery is responsible for providing surgical care under the supervision of Consultant Surgeons. The involves evaluating patients, assisting and performing surgical procedures as per competency, managing preoperative and postoperative care, attending surgical emergencies, and ensuring evidence-based patient care.

Role & Responsibilities

• Evaluate and manage patients with general surgical conditions.
• Conduct OPD consultations, inpatient rounds, and emergency surgical assessments.
• Assist consultants during elective and emergency surgical procedures.
• Perform minor and major surgical procedures as per institutional privileges.
• Manage preoperative assessment and postoperative patient care.
• Respond promptly to trauma and surgical emergencies.
• Interpret laboratory investigations, imaging studies, and diagnostic reports.
• Prescribe medications, investigations, and treatment plans.
• Maintain accurate operative notes and clinical documentation.
• Coordinate with anesthesiologists, nursing staff, ICU, and allied healthcare professionals.
• Counsel patients and families regarding diagnosis, surgery, risks, and recovery.
• Participate in clinical audits, academic activities, research, and teaching programs.
• Support NABH accreditation and quality improvement initiatives.
• Follow hospital policies, medical ethics, and statutory regulations.
• Deliver safe, evidence-based, and patient-centered surgical care.
