The incumbent evaluates preoperative and postoperative cardiac patients, assists and performs procedures under consultant supervision, and collaborates with ICU/OPD teams, contributing to audits and academic activities.

Qualifications

• MBBS with MS/DNB in General Surgery or MCh/DNB/DrNB in Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery (depending on recruitment rules). Eligibility varies by hospital and superspecialty.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and manage preoperative and postoperative cardiac surgery patients.
• Assist in and progressively perform cardiothoracic surgical procedures under consultant supervision.
• Manage patients in the Cardiac ICU, wards, OPD, and Emergency department.
• Participate in emergency surgeries and on-call duties.
• Interpret investigations including ECG, echocardiography, chest X-rays, CT scans and labs.
• Coordinate with anesthesiology, cardiology, perfusionists, intensivists, and nursing teams.
• Teach undergraduate and postgraduate students and participate in academic activities.
• Maintain accurate medical records and hospital protocols.
• Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and research activities.

Role Summary

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate and manage preoperative and postoperative cardiac surgery patients.
• Assist in and progressively perform cardiothoracic surgical procedures under consultant supervision.
• Manage patients in the Cardiac ICU, wards, outpatient department (OPD), and emergency department.
• Participate in emergency surgeries and on-call duties.
• Perform procedures such as:
  • Chest tube insertion and management
  • Central venous catheter placement
  • Arterial line insertion
  • Temporary pacing wire management
  • Wound care and postoperative management
• Interpret investigations including ECG, echocardiography reports, chest X-rays, CT scans, and relevant laboratory tests.
• Coordinate with anesthesiology, cardiology, perfusionists, intensivists, and nursing teams.
• Teach undergraduate and postgraduate students and participate in academic activities.
• Maintain accurate medical records and comply with hospital protocols.
