Persistent Systems Limited is seeking a Senior Python Backend Engineer in Pune with 8-12 years of experience to design and build scalable backends, Temporal workflows, and cloud-native apps. You will develop Python services, REST APIs, and robust data access layers, aligning with enterprise-grade security and performance.

The role involves working with AWS, PostgreSQL/Aurora, Docker/Kubernetes, and collaborating across DevOps, QA, product, and architecture teams in a hybrid work setup.

Qualifications

We are seeking a Senior Python Backend Engineer with 8-12 years of experience in designing and developing scalable backend systems, workflow orchestration platforms, and cloud-native applications. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Python, Temporal workflows, API development, and AWS cloud services. This role involves building resilient backend architectures, managing workflow automation, integrating external systems, and delivering secure, high-performance enterprise applications.

What You’ll Do:

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Python and frameworks such as Fast API or Flask.
• Develop high-performance REST APIs and microservices supporting enterprise-grade applications.
• Design reusable, maintainable, and secure backend architectures following cloud-native best practices.
• Build and manage Temporal workflows and activity implementations.
• Design resilient workflow orchestration solutions for complex business processes.
• Deploy, manage, and support cloud-native applications on AWS.
• Utilize AWS services including EC2, Lambda, RDS/Aurora, S3, and related cloud components.
• Build secure and high-performing data access layers.
• Collaborate with DevOps, QA, Product, and Architecture teams.
• Contribute to Agile ceremonies, estimations, and technical planning activities.

Expertise You'll Bring:

• Strong hands-on experience with Python backend
• Expertise in Temporal (workflow + activity implementation)
• API development and microservices architecture
• Database experience with PostgreSQL / Aurora
• Experience with external API integrations and AI-based systems
• Secrets management (AWS Secrets Manager / Vault) Preferred Skills
• Experience with distributed systems and event-driven architecture
• Knowledge of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) - CI/CD pipeline experience - Observability tools (logging, monitoring, tracing)
• Experience 3–8 years in backend development with Python and cloud technologies
• Education bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
