Job summary

Expanded are recruiting a Senior Project Planner to support upcoming Defence & Power projects in Buckinghamshire. The role focuses on developing compliant programmes, pre-contract planning, and bid support, with strong emphasis on 4D planning and on-site delivery.

You will analyse performance, manage risks and commercial implications of tender bids, and apply advanced planning techniques within the group framework. A degree in Civil Engineering is required.

Qualifications

• Degree-qualified (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering.
• Experience with 4D planning, Asta and Primavera P6.
• Ability to analyse data for forecasting and reporting.
• Ability to prioritise tasks and manage urgent work.
• Lateral thinking to spot trends in production data.
• Solid on-site engineering delivery experience on live projects.
• Experience in structural engineering and construction phases.
• Experience developing programmes from first principles and aligning with construction methodologies.

Responsibilities

• Ensure programmes comply with project requirements and develop a logical construction sequence.
• Lead pre-contract planning and bid programmes for tender teams.

• Assess risks, opportunities and commercial implications of tender bids.
• Present time-related material using various techniques and produce clear communications and submissions.
• Contribute to risks and commercial implications of Tender Bids.
• Independently develop processes and systems to manage complex contracts.
• Carry out forensic analysis of programme data and liaise with client teams.
• Apply knowledge of contract types to align controls with risk and opportunities.
• Develop and introduce advanced project management techniques for complex projects.

Expanded are currently recruiting for a Senior Project Planner to support upcoming projects in the Defence & Power sector.

Scope of works: Reinforced concrete structures.

What will the role look like?

• Ensuring that all programmes are compliant with the Project requirements and develop and agree a logical sequence of events ensuring that the most economical/advantageous construction strategy is adopted.
• Carrying out in Pre-Contract planning and Work Winning processes and procedures to produce Bid Programmes and associated time related information as part of a tender bid team
• Analysing performance and advising the project team of likely impact and recommend improvements.
• Able to contribute to the risks, opportunities and commercial implications of a tender bid
• Able to present time-related material using a variety of techniques and methods; providing effective communication, high quality submission and presentation material
• Able to contribute to the risks, opportunities and commercial implications of a Tender Bid
• Able to independently produce processes and systems to manage contracts for more complex projects
• Carries out forensic analysis of programme data and interfaces with client teams to build effective relationships
• Applies a comprehensive knowledge of the different types of contracts to ensure control measures are aligned with the contract risk and commercial opportunities are optimised
• Develops and introduces advanced project management techniques to the Laing O'Rourke business and establishes them for use on technique and complex projects.

What skills & experience are we looking for?

• Degree-qualified (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering
• Modelling and 4D planning, as well as Asta or P6 – preferably both to a high standard
• Ability to analyse, collate and utilise a range of data and information for reporting and forecasting
• Able to ascertain which tasks are urgent or important and the level of accuracy required
• Lateral thinker to spot trends/issues in production data
• Solid on-site engineering delivery experience, with hands‑on involvement in live projects
• Demonstrated experience in structural engineering and related construction phases
• Experienced in developing programmes from first principles, ensuring accuracy and alignment with construction methodologies

• Leading the planning function on a project
• Resource management, recruitment, development, coaching and mentoring.
• Developing business advancements/ improvement agendas
• Maintenance of programme and other related materials
