Job summary

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) India is seeking a seasoned Project Manager to oversee program activities, ensure donor compliance, and deliver outputs through volunteers and consultants. The role emphasizes leadership, collaboration with ministries, and developing projects in agriculture and natural resource governance.

You will build partnerships with government and civil society, guide the project team, monitor performance, and ensure timely reporting.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Forestry, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or related field.
  • 5–10 years of project management experience.
  • Experience in field operations, liaising with government and partners.
  • Excellent English presentation, writing, and spoken communication skills.
  • International experience is an added advantage; work across locations is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in HR software and technology.

Job description

  • Manage and supervise all project activities as outlined in the agreement between donors and IUCN.
  • Ensure timely outputs from volunteers and consultants through effective leadership.
  • Develop and maintain networks, collaborations, and partnerships with organizations, individuals, and stakeholders.
  • Maintain close relationships with donors and their staff for compliance, funding, capacity development, and building networks.
  • Ensure timely submission of work plans, budgets, internal agreements, contracts, and progress reports.
  • Guide project team members to monitor performance and track progress on issues.
  • Implement the project communications plan in line with IUCN and donor policies.
  • Contribute actively to the growth of IUCN by designing and implementing projects under thematic areas, particularly on Agriculture and natural resource governance, and develop proposals for funding initiatives aligned with IUCN mandates.
  • Provide technical inputs into IUCN India integrated programme planning and other thematic programmes through project proposals, implementation, monitoring, workshops, publications, and papers.
  • Cross-programme learning on integrating environment, disaster management, food security, climate change, and sustainable livelihoods approaches, along with mainstreaming of gender issues.
  • Effectively contribute to implementing IUCN's 'One Programme' approach and support institutionalization of relationships with members, partners, and other organizations of IUCN India.
  • Serve as a focal point for interaction related to IUCN's thematic areas, programme areas, and Commissions, while supporting organizational restructuring and systems development needed to manage a growing program.
  • Ensure IUCN's brand and image are properly presented and maintained in all activities, forums, and areas while developing and managing the country programme.
  • Interact regularly with ministries and other agencies, local government, IUCN Members, IUCN Commissions, non-government agencies, development agencies, peers, scientists, and grassroots stakeholders to advise, plan, and design collaborative or interactive projects, ensuring they are based on solid environmental knowledge.
  • Communicate relevant information laterally, vertically, and externally as appropriate, undertaking any other tasks that may be assigned by the Program Manager of IUCN India from time to time.
Job Requirements
  • Master's degree in Forestry, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or other closely related fields.
  • 5-10 years of relevant professional experience in project management, preferably with ecological and biodiversity concerns and livelihood improvements.
  • Experience in field programme/project operations, liaising with government, national and international organizations, and development partners.
  • Excellent presentation, writing, and spoken communication skills in English.
  • International experience is an added advantage; work experience in more than one location or area of work is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in using HR software and technology.
