Job summary

Teri In in India seeks a wildlife conservation professional to support ecosystem and biodiversity projects. The role involves field surveys (camera-trap, transects, GPS), data quality control, and spatial analysis to inform habitat planning and protected-area management.

You will engage with communities and stakeholders, prepare technical reports, and contribute to capacity-building activities. Posting begins in Delhi, with international travel as needed.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in wildlife science, wildlife ecology, or related discipline.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience in wildlife surveys, biodiversity monitoring, habitat/corridor assessment, or human-wildlife conflict mitigation.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design, implementation, and monitoring of wildlife conservation projects including habitat planning and protected areas.
  • Undertake camera-trap, transect, sign/occupancy, GPS, and other biodiversity field surveys with data quality documentation.
  • Analyse species distribution, habitat suitability, landscape connectivity, and wildlife corridors using RS-GIS, camera-trap, and ecological data.
  • Contribute to protected-area management plans, eco-development, and monitoring systems.
  • Facilitate community and stakeholder consultations; document conflict and support mitigation measures.
  • Prepare technical reports, maps, presentations, training material, and publications aligned with relevant acts and IUCN guidelines.

Job description

  • Support the design, implementation, and monitoring of wildlife conservation projects covering habitat/landscape planning, protected areas, species recovery, and human-wildlife conflict.
  • Undertake camera-trap, transect, sign/occupancy, GPS, and other biodiversity field surveys; ensure data quality and documentation.
  • Analyse species distribution, habitat suitability, landscape connectivity, and wildlife corridors using RS-GIS, camera-trap, and ecological data.
  • Contribute to protected-area management/zonation plans, eco-development and eco-tourism frameworks, species conservation action plans, and monitoring systems.
  • Facilitate community and stakeholder consultations; document conflict and support locally appropriate mitigation, infrastructure, and livelihood measures.
  • Support proposals, RFPs/EOIs, and conservation-finance programmes involving CSR, biodiversity credits/funds, and wildlife co-benefits in carbon/NbS projects.
  • Prepare technical reports, maps, presentations, training material, and publications aligned with the Wildlife (Protection) Act, CITES, EIA requirements, and IUCN frameworks.
  • Participate in meetings, workshops, and capacity-building activities; undertake extensive project-related field travel in India and, when required, internationally.
  • Initial posting one month in Delhi.
Experience

Qualification

Master-s degree in wildlife science- Wildlife Biology- Ecology- Zoology- Forestry- Biodiversity Conservation- Natural Resource Management- Environmental Science- Geography- or a related discipline.

Skills
  • Knowledge of wildlife ecology- habitat and protected-area assessment- species monitoring- corridor conservation- and human-wildlife conflict mitigation.
  • Familiarity with camera trapping- transects- sign surveys- GPS-based data collection- and species identification.
  • Proficiency in ArcGIS/QGIS and Google Earth/Google Earth Engine- with the ability to manage and analyse ecological- spatial- and camera-trap data; R/Python or wildlife-analysis software is desirable.
  • Familiarity with KoboToolbox- eBird- iNaturalist- SMART- and the Wildlife (Protection) Act- CITES- IUCN Red List- and relevant environmental regulations.
  • Strong report/proposal writing- stakeholder engagement- communication- Microsoft Office- and presentation skills.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience- preferably in wildlife surveys- biodiversity monitoring- habitat/corridor assessment- human-wildlife conflict mitigation- or protected-area projects.
