Persistent is seeking a Senior PostgreSQL Database Administrator to own and manage a high-availability PostgreSQL platform across the enterprise. You will lead end-to-end PostgreSQL administration, HA architectures, Kubernetes deployments, backup and recovery, security hardening, and observability initiatives.

You will collaborate with Product Engineering, DevOps, Platform, IAM, and Monitoring teams to ensure reliability, scalability, and security for mission-critical services across Persistent

Qualifications

• 6–12 years of PostgreSQL experience in DBA/DR/engineering roles.
• Strong PostgreSQL internals: WAL, MVCC, autovacuum, locking.
• Hands-on HA architectures, replication, failover strategies.

Responsibilities

• Own PostgreSQL upgrades and zero-downtime migrations.
• Manage and maintain High Availability environments and replication setups.

About Position:

We are looking for an experienced Senior PostgreSQL Database Administrator to own and manage the PostgreSQL high-availability platform that supports critical analytics, identity management, workflow orchestration, and monitoring services across the enterprise. The role involves end-to-end PostgreSQL administration, high-availability architecture, Kubernetes-based deployments, backup and recovery, security hardening, observability, database modernization, and operational excellence. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in PostgreSQL administration, replication technologies, Kubernetes operations, database performance tuning, backup and recovery strategies, and infrastructure automation. You will work closely with Product Engineering, DevOps, Platform, IAM, and Monitoring teams to ensure reliability, scalability, security, and high availability of mission-critical services.

What You'll Do:

• Own and execute PostgreSQL major version upgrades using in-place, migration-based, and zero-downtime strategies.


• Plan, validate, and execute PostgreSQL migration activities while ensuring application compatibility and data integrity.


• Manage and maintain PostgreSQL High Availability environments, replication architectures, and failover configurations.


• Operate PostgreSQL deployments on Kubernetes, including Helm upgrades, configuration management, and platform lifecycle activities.


• Design and implement geo-redundancy solutions across multiple availability zones and regions.


• Execute storage migration initiatives, including Persistent Volume migrations, storage-class transitions, and rollback planning.


• Coordinate schema migrations, database deployments, and change management activities.


• Support and maintain PostgreSQL-backed enterprise platforms, including analytics, IAM, workflow orchestration, and monitoring systems.


• Configure and optimize PgBouncer connection pooling for high-performance application workloads.


• Design, implement, and validate backup and disaster recovery strategies using WAL archiving, base backups, and Point-in-Time Recovery (PITR).


• Manage database security, user access controls, credential rotation, audit logging, TLS enforcement, and vulnerability remediation.


• Develop and maintain monitoring dashboards, alerting frameworks, and operational reporting systems using Prometheus and Grafana.


• Diagnose and resolve performance issues related to replication lag, locking conflicts, long-running queries, autovacuum bottlenecks, and storage constraints.


• Develop operational runbooks, recovery procedures, upgrade documentation, and database standards.


• Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to improve database reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency.


• Provide advanced L3 production support and incident management for critical PostgreSQL environments.

Expertise You'll Bring:

• 6 to 12 years of experience in PostgreSQL Database Administration, Database Engineering, or Database Reliability Engineering.


• Strong understanding of PostgreSQL internals including WAL architecture, MVCC, transaction management, autovacuum, locking mechanisms, and connection lifecycle management.


• Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL High Availability architectures, replication, failover strategies, switchovers, and disaster recovery planning.


• Expertise in PostgreSQL major version upgrades using pg_upgrade, logical replication, and migration-based upgrade methodologies.


• Strong experience managing backup and recovery processes including pg_basebackup, WAL archiving, PITR, and disaster recovery testing.


• Advanced SQL expertise including schema design, indexing strategies, query optimization, and performance tuning using EXPLAIN ANALYZE.


• Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL security practices including RBAC, pg_hba.conf configuration, SSL/TLS enforcement, audit controls, and access management.


• Hands-on experience with PgBouncer configuration, optimization, connection scaling, and session management.


• Experience deploying and managing PostgreSQL on Kubernetes platforms.


• Expertise with StatefulSets, Persistent Volumes, storage migrations, and Kubernetes-based stateful workloads.


• Strong understanding of Helm deployment lifecycle management and configuration customization.


• Experience developing and maintaining PostgreSQL observability solutions using Prometheus and Grafana.


• Ability to troubleshoot replication lag, query performance issues, autovacuum bottlenecks, database locks, and resource constraints.


• Strong Bash scripting skills for automation, monitoring, maintenance, and operational activities.


• Familiarity with Python or Go for tooling, automation, and migration utilities.


• Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, and deployment automation.


• Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and root-cause analysis skills.


• Strong documentation, stakeholder management, and communication capabilities.


• Experience working with globally distributed engineering, DevOps, and operations teams.
