Senior Platform Engineer - CI/CD (GCP, Kubernetes/OpenShift)
Location:
Chennai
Experience:
4 - 8 years
About the role:
Transcloud helps enterprises and fast-growing companies migrate, modernise and run critical workloads in the cloud. We're looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to work embedded in the platform engineering team of a global automotive client. The team runs the CI/CD platform for a large application portfolio: thousands of services, onboarded through a self-service platform and supported 24x5. You'll build and run the pipelines that application teams depend on every day. When something breaks, you'll own it until it's fixed.
What you'll do?
- Build, maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines and reusable pipeline templates used by hundreds of application teams.
- Support and extend the self-service onboarding platform: the portal, its backend APIs, automated pull requests across repositories, and GitOps-based deployments.
- Take part in the on-call roster. Respond quickly to production pipeline failures, debug to root cause, and keep stakeholders updated until the issue is resolved.
- Work directly with application teams to understand their requirements, clarify gaps, and get their services onboarded.
- Automate repetitive work using Python and Terraform.
- Document how the platform works, validated against the live system, so the wider team can troubleshoot independently.
- Contribute to platform improvements such as CI/CD migrations (e.g. Tekton to GitHub Actions), reliability metrics, and AI-assisted engineering tools.
Must-have skills:
- 3+ years in DevOps or platform engineering, with at least 2 years building and running CI/CD at scale.
- Hands-on production experience with Kubernetes. OpenShift is strongly preferred (namespaces, RBAC, routes, operators).
- Kubernetes-native CI/CD. Tekton is preferred; GitHub Actions or Jenkins experience is also valuable.
- GitOps tooling such as Argo CD or Flux, and deployment strategies such as blue-green and canary.
- Solid Google Cloud experience: GKE, IAM, VPC networking, Artifact Registry, Cloud Logging and Monitoring.
- Infrastructure-as-code with Terraform, including building reusable modules.
- Python for automation, and comfort reading backend code and REST APIs.
- Strong fundamentals in Linux, Git, Docker and cloud networking/security.
- A proven ability to troubleshoot pipeline and deployment failures under production pressure.
Good to have:
- Google Cloud Professional certification (Cloud DevOps Engineer or Cloud Architect).
- CKA/CKAD or a Red Hat OpenShift certification.
- Experience migrating between CI/CD platforms.
- Experience with internal developer platforms or self-service portals.
- DORA metrics, observability, or software supply chain security (SBOMs, image signing, policy-as-code).
- Exposure to AWS or Azure.
How you work?
- You take end-to-end ownership of your work. Nobody needs to chase you for progress.
- You raise blockers early and ask clarifying questions before passing work on.
- You treat production issues with urgency.
- You share proactive, written updates.
- You learn a new system by getting hands-on with it, not by waiting to be walked through it.
- You're comfortable working embedded in a client team while representing Transcloud's standards.
What we offer?
- Health insurance.
- Flexible working hours.
- A 5-day work week and an informal dress code.
- Direct exposure to enterprise clients, and career growth in platform engineering.
*Subject to client on-call and US-overlap requirements.
