Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Chemical Engineering (or equivalent).
• 10+ years of technical experience focused on gas turbine combustion systems, fuel delivery, and operational troubleshooting.
• Experience performing RCAs on combustion-related events and interfacing with customer site personnel during critical outage or trip-recovery events.
• Advanced proficiency in analyzing high-speed data, PLC trip logs, MarkVie Controller and combustion monitoring platforms.
• Proven ability to present technical risk assessments and post-trip analyses to customers and leadership.

Responsibilities

• Technical Domain Ownership: SME for combustion system operability, including DLN tuning, flame dynamics, hardware health, and trip logic with fleet-wide RCA ownership.
• Lead advisory during urgent forced outages/trips, providing forensic guidance to minimize restart delays and prevent re-trips.
• Tier 2 governance: provide escalation support for frontline M&D teams and mentor engineers in data interpretation and signal analysis.
• Lead domain-to-data translation for new diagnostic algorithms; collaborate with Data Scientists on feature engineering for flame monitoring and pulsation analysis.
• Apply Lean methodologies to streamline post-trip troubleshooting and action planning.

The Monitoring and Diagnostics (M&D) Center in Gas Power manages the world’s largest power generation monitoring facility, overseeing 900+ power plants and 3,000+ assets. As a Tier 2 Senior Engineer, you will serve as the technical authority for Gas Turbine Combustion Operability and Trip Troubleshooting. You are the final line of high-level technical assessment, translating complex thermodynamic data, high-speed transient logs, and flame sensor signals into high-value customer recommendations. This role is a critical link between deep combustion theory, digital analytics, and fleet-wide reliability strategy.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Technical Domain Ownership:Serve as the global Subject Matter Expert (SME) for combustion system operability, including DLN (Dry Low NOx) tuning, flame dynamics, combustion hardware health, and trip logic. Own the diagnostic logic for complex failure modes (e.g., combustion instability, flame-out, ignition failure, and fuel system anomalies) and drive fleet-wide Root Cause Analyses (RCAs).
• High-Consequence Customer Advisory:Influence multi-million dollar operational decisions by providing data-backed recommendations that balance environmental compliance, hardware integrity, and commercial uptime. Act as the lead advisor for urgent forced-outage/trip events, providing forensic guidance to minimize restart delays and prevent re-trips.
• Tier 2 Technical Governance:Provide second-tier escalation support for Frontline M&D teams. Mentor engineers on advanced trip log interpretation, transient data evaluation, and combustion-system signal analysis, ensuring diagnostic consistency and rapid response across the fleet.
• Analytic Strategy & Development:Lead the "domain-to-data" translation for new combustion diagnostic algorithms. Collaborate with Data Scientists to define feature engineering requirements for flame monitoring and pressure pulsation analysis, validate model performance, and refine detection sensitivity to minimize nuisance alarms.
• Lean Operational Excellence:Apply Lean methodologies to the M&D workflow, identifying bottlenecks in the "post-trip" troubleshooting process and streamlining the transition from data ingestion to corrective action plans.
• Cross-Functional RCA Leadership:Drive technical investigations alongside Product Services and Design Engineering. Use forensic analysis of trip data and combustion trends to influence fuel system design, tuning strategies, and reliability service bulletins.

Required Qualifications
