Responsibilities

About the Role

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to aid in design, analysis, assembly, testing, and optimization of our system. Fourier engineers work in a hands‑on, collaborative environment to solve problems and push progress forward. Qualified candidates should have prior hands‑on experience working in a mechanical lab or industrial company.

Roles and responsibilities

• You will lead concept development and analysis in support of design trades, rapid development, and design down-selects.
• You will work on Design, analysis, and testing of all structural, thermal, environmental, and insulating aspects of our product subsystems
• Design and validate cooling technologies for thermal management of electrolyzer stacks and electrical components.
• Review process flow diagrams, and create P&IDs and mechanical design
• Facilitate selection of the optimal hardware components (heat exchanger, pump, fan, sensors, pipes, valves, fittings etc.) from external suppliers
• Packaging design for High-voltage electrical and electronics components
• 3D design of complex parts and assemblies, including plastics, sheet metal, insulation systems, sealing methods, connectors, fasteners, and other components
• Collaborate with other team members to aid in system integration
• Optimize designs for all aspects of their performance, cost, and reliability
• Create and maintain PLM documentation (Bill of Materials, Drawings, calculations, FMEA etc.)
• Develop test plans and lead lab test and validation activities to confirm product reliability
• Oversee the setup and assembly of engineering prototype builds, and production units

Qualifications

Required:

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with 5+ years of relevant experience
• First-principles physics understanding of engineering disciplines such as: statics, mechanics, materials, heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics
• Aptitude for fast and accurate hand calculations for sizing and performance of fluid and thermal systems.
• Experience in design and analysis of complex systems which involve thermal, fluids, environmental, and electro‑mechanical packaging
• Ability to rapidly create and evaluate multiple design solutions for difficulty of construction, feasibility, and performance
• Extensive experience taking designs from concept through production
• Experience in Design for manufacturing, assembly and reliability, and cost optimization
• Hands‑on experience in component fabrication and mechanical assembly
• Skills: 3D CAD (Solidworks or similar), Thermal & structural FEA

Preferred:

• Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D) in Mechanical Engineering or relevant field
• Experience in Design for manufacturing, assembly and reliability, and cost optimization
• Experience in the following areas:
• 2D Drawings, GD&T
• Hands‑on work with gas and/or water piping
• FMEA (Failure Mode & Effects Analysis)
• Working with hydrogen or similar gasses
• Flow and Multi‑Physics simulation (CFD)
