Purpose of the position
This role is responsible for managing new part development related to Electricals & Electronics commodities with suppliers to facilitate launch of new products and implementation of changes in existing products. The role is accountable for eliminating incoming defective parts, line fitment problems and field failures by improving supplier processes, strengthening APQP/PPAP discipline, ensuring electronics manufacturing process capability, and delivering optimum vehicle quality from plant to customer.
Dimensions of the position
Responsible for managing approximately 520 vendors depending upon commodity scope, program allocation, supplier complexity and project requirements.
- 4 to 10 years of relevant experience in the automotive industry, preferably in Electricals & Electronics, infotainment, telematics, ECUs, wiring harness, sensors, semiconductors, switches, controllers, multimedia or ADAS related commodities.
- Comprehensive knowledge of E&E commodity, manufacturing process, technology, supplier base domestic and international, APQP, PPAP, electronics manufacturing process controls and testing requirements.
- Hands-on exposure to supplier audits, new part development, electronics process validation, quality issue resolution, field failure analysis, PPM reduction and launch readiness.
Design Feasibility & Supplier Selection Process
- Analyse part design received from Engineering for manufacturability as part of matched pair team with Engineering and Purchase.
- Engage suppliers during early vehicle development phase through Early Vendor Involvement to ensure quality and timely delivery of new E&E parts.
- Identify and recommend potential suppliers after receiving SOR from Engineering.
- Shortlist suppliers based on technical capabilities through TRSO with Purchase, Engineering and FMQ.
- Participate in DFMEA reviews to ensure past potential design failures are captured in current design, especially for safety, reliability and electronics failure modes.
Part Development Process
- Obtain initial samples and secure quality approval from Quality Assurance team through IR/MR process.
- Conduct 3-stage PPAP including process validation, material evaluation, early production containment, first parts off serial tool/equipment, dimensional/functional validation, capability studies and Run @ Rate.
- Drive Installation Quality Audit with production quality and supplier for proprietary and black box items.
- Conduct vehicle level Fitment Trial Report sign-off with required CFT members.
- Sign off Part Submission Warrant to certify that the part has been developed as per specifications and planned volume needs.
- Plan early production issue containment to ensure quality of early deliveries.
- Monitor and prepare PPM report of developed parts for defined period.
Tooling, Testing Infrastructure and Cost Reduction
- Identify VAVE opportunities and implement actions to achieve cost reduction targets.
- Manage tooling/equipment capitalization and process payouts.
- Conduct tool, fixture, gauge and testing equipment audits; ensure closure of identified issues and submit audit/closure reports.
- Report bad tool/equipment condition and drive corrective action, repairs and emergency maintenance.
- Provide technical support to suppliers for tooling, fixtures, gauges, testing equipment and process improvement.
Supplier Management Process and Quality Improvement
- Conduct Manufacturing Site Assessment to determine supplier health and identify improvement areas.
- Prepare optimized strategic supplier base to meet organizational requirements.
- Resolve CCT, rejection, hotline, CPA, line complaint and quality issues through structured root cause analysis.
- Plan for demand fluctuations, create capacities as needed and monitor part supplies to meet volume forecast.
- Drive projects to improve supplier QMS, process capability, process control, traceability and quality consistency.
- Plan and conduct supplier audits, surveillance audits, Process Control Plan Audit and Re-PPAP as required.
- Identify scope of resourcing and propose alternate suppliers where required.
- Conduct field failure analysis and action planning to eliminate field failures.
