This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Manager - Specialty Engineer (Welding, Pressure Vessels & Fabrication Capability) based in India.

This senior engineering role leads global technical capability across welding, pressure vessels, tanks, piping, materials selection, corrosion prevention, and fabricated capital assets.
You’ll help protect major capital investments and manufacturing reliability through early technical input and rigorous problem-solving.
The role combines deep engineering expertise with supplier development, capital project support, innovation, and technical standards leadership.
You’ll influence projects from design and supplier selection through fabrication, inspection, installation, and start-up.
You’ll also identify technologies and practices that can reduce capital cost, lead time, maintenance requirements, and equipment failures.
A significant part of the role involves developing internal and external technical capability through training, coaching, communities, and supplier engagement.
You’ll lead people and technical resources while collaborating with engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, quality, HSE, R&D, suppliers, and external standards organizations.

Accountabilities
  • Own technical capability and guidance for welding, pressure vessels, tanks, sanitary piping, materials of construction, and corrosion prevention.

  • Provide early engineering input and execution support for major capital projects, helping identify technical risks and prevent recurring quality or reliability issues.

  • Diagnose complex equipment, fabrication, materials, and field problems and translate findings into practical engineering recommendations.

  • Partner with Purchasing to evaluate prospective suppliers, assess technical capabilities, monitor fabrication quality, and strengthen the capital supply base.

  • Support technical activities throughout the project lifecycle, including design, supplier selection, fabrication, inspection, installation, and start-up.

  • Develop and scale engineering innovations that can reduce capital cost, project lead time, and maintenance requirements, including corrosion-resistant linings, polymer applications, custom bending, gasketless connections, and remote inspection methods.

  • Build technical capability through welding and pressure-vessel training programs, technical symposia, communities of practice, coaching, supplier development, and practical field learning.

  • Represent the organization in relevant external standards bodies and professional forums, translating emerging standards and industry practices into practical engineering guidance.

  • Lead and develop direct reports, laboratory resources, contractors, and technical partners through clear priorities, regular coaching, development opportunities, and disciplined work processes.

  • Support the Materials Lab in maintaining business continuity while improving productivity, turnaround times, and organizational capability.

  • Collaborate with capital project managers, engineering leaders, construction teams, manufacturing sites, Quality, HSE, R&D, equipment owners, suppliers, fabricators, inspection partners, and technical communities.

  • Drive measurable improvements in equipment reliability, fabrication compliance, cleanability, maintainability, cost efficiency, and technical capability.

Requirements
  • Engineering qualification in Mechanical Engineering or Metallurgy.

  • Current CWI (Certified Welding Inspector) certification.

  • Deep technical expertise in metallurgy, welding, corrosion, materials of construction, pressure equipment, tanks, piping, and fabricated capital assets.

  • Demonstrated experience diagnosing complex equipment or fabrication problems and developing clear, actionable technical solutions.

  • Experience supporting major capital projects across design, supplier evaluation, fabrication, inspection, installation, and start-up.

  • Strong understanding of technical risk management and the ability to balance cost, schedule, quality, cleanability, reliability, and maintainability considerations.

  • Ability to influence multidisciplinary project teams, suppliers, and technical communities without relying solely on formal authority.

  • Experience developing technical capability in others through training, coaching, standards, reusable engineering tools, and communities of practice.

  • Strong people leadership skills, including priority setting, performance feedback, development planning, and management of internal and contracted resources.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, manufacturing, procurement, quality, HSE, R&D, and supplier organizations.

  • Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the credibility to represent the organization in external technical forums and standards organizations.

  • Analytical judgment, practical problem-solving ability, and a strong focus on long-term equipment reliability and engineering excellence.

Benefits
  • Full-time senior engineering position with global scope and technical leadership responsibilities.

  • Opportunity to influence major capital projects and manufacturing reliability across multiple sites and technical communities.

  • Exposure to advanced welding, metallurgy, materials, corrosion, pressure equipment, fabrication, and inspection technologies.

  • Opportunities to lead technical innovation focused on cost, quality, reliability, and maintainability improvements.

  • Professional development through technical communities, training programs, coaching, and external standards engagement.
