Qualifications

Business Context and Main Purpose of the Job

Intelligent Global Business Services (iGBS) is Unilever’s AI-powered operations engine. It keeps the business running today while designing smarter ways of working for tomorrow. By simplifying work, improving service delivery, enabling sharper decisions and unlocking growth, iGBS helps Unilever operate with greater speed, consistency and discipline across core enterprise services including finance, people, workplace, marketing, sales and supplier operations. Within iGBS, Global Finance Services (GFS) supports Unilever’s finance agenda by delivering reliable, future-fit finance operations across reporting, controls, process excellence, data, analytics and transformation. GFS combines operational discipline, process ownership, third-party partner management and digital enablement to strengthen stewardship, improve service experience and create capacity for higher-value finance work. With in larger GFS, the Parent & Holding Reporting team manages financial, management and regulatory reporting, as well as financial controllership, for Unilever PLC and more than 70 Unilever legal entities across the UK, the Netherlands and Switzerland. These entities act as parent and holding companies for operating businesses, house corporate centre activities, hold intellectual property for the Group, and perform group financing and central cost allocation functions.

What your day at Unilever would look like:
  • Financial controllership: Act as the independent financial controller for assigned parent and holding entities, partnering with Global Finance Controls, Group Treasury and Group Tax to drive entity-level priorities.
  • Monthly reporting: Lead monthly internal and external reporting for consolidation and statutory purposes, covering intercompany, dividends, royalties, overall financial performance and explanations for ad hoc movements.
  • Statutory audits: Coordinate and manage statutory audits for 25+ legal entities in the Netherlands, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, ensuring delivery in line with IFRS, UK FAS, Swiss SCO and local statutory requirements.
  • Technical accounting and IFRS expertise: Act as a Centre of Excellence for technical accounting matters and support smooth senior stakeholder sign-off for IFRS reporting.
  • Financial control framework: Ensure compliance with Unilever’s Group Financial Control Framework and maintain robust financial controls across processes, reporting and governance.
  • Impairment assessments: Lead impairment assessments for investments and intangible assets, ensuring clear analysis, appropriate challenge and robust documentation.
  • Corporate centre accounting and cost reporting: Lead accounting and reporting for Corporate Centre costs, including payroll, pensions, leadership costs and global programmes.
  • Intercompany reconciliation: Ensure timely and accurate reconciliation of balances with fellow subsidiaries and drive resolution of open items.
  • IFRS 2 share-based accounting: Manage pan-Unilever share-based payment accounting for employees in accordance with IFRS 2.
  • Process improvement and transformation: Drive simplification, standardisation and responsible use of automation and agentification across processes, controls and reporting.
Key Skills and Requirements
  • Financial operating model expertise: Strong understanding of finance operating models, financial systems, transaction controls and reporting processes, with the ability to ensure accurate, reliable and user-friendly financial information.
  • IFRS and local GAAP expertise: Strong technical accounting knowledge across IFRS and local statutory reporting, with the ability to lead high-quality submissions and sign-offs for senior stakeholders.
  • Team leadership: Proven ability to lead, motivate and develop teams while embedding a strong controllership mindset and high standards of performance, accountability and care.
  • Stakeholder engagement: Ability to act as a trusted internal consultant, balancing business partnering with independent controllership and constructive challenge.
  • Continuous improvement: Consistent focus on identifying and implementing opportunities to simplify, harmonise and standardise finance processes.

Resources – Manage a team of up to 15 members and engage with stakeholders at Manager, Director and Vice President levels.

Key Contacts – Group Chief Accounting Department, Group Treasury, Group Tax, third-party service providers, and external and internal auditors.

Relevant Experience
  • Minimum 14 years of experience in group financial reporting, controllership and statutory audits.
  • Chartered Accountant qualification is must.
  • Strong expertise in IFRS is required; knowledge of Dutch GAAP would be an advantage.
  • Working knowledge of SAP is mandatory.
  • Strong people management and stakeholder management skills are required.
  • Self-driven, with the ability to translate vision into action and lead execution through the team.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a complex global environment with senior stakeholders.
  • Previous experience working across different cultures and countries would be an advantage.
