Job summary

CPI India Private Limited is seeking a Senior Manager to strengthen the Low Carbon Transition workstream in Delhi/NCR. The role focuses on planning, executing research initiatives, capacity building, and engagement with policymakers, regulators, and financiers.

The incumbent will lead projects and coordinate with CPI teams globally. The ideal candidate has 10–12 years of post-qualification experience, strong English communication, and deep knowledge of India’s energy transition and finance.

CPI India Private Limited works to support India’s clean energy mission directed by its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) through clean energy market catalyzing initiatives, such as India Clean Energy Finance (ICEF), the India Distributed Solar Finance initiative (IDSF), and The Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance (India Chapter); capacity building initiatives, such as the Center for Sustainable Finance (CSF) and Green Indian Financial System (GIFS); and carries out analytical work for transitioning towards a sustainable energy future, such as futureproofing strategies for PSUs. CPI also supports efforts in adaptation with a focus on financing adaptation in India, sustainable finance flows to agriculture, and nature-based solutions.

ABOUT LOW CARBON TRANSITION WORKSTREAM

CPI’s Low Carbon Transition workstream focuses on decarbonization pathways of energy, industry, mobility and related sectors. The workstream combines economic impacts with an array of policy tools and financial instruments and mechanisms to address transition impacts and create opportunities for sustainable development.

The objective of CPI’s Low Carbon Transition work stream in India is to create comprehensive sectoral transition frameworks, structured around the utilization of limited public funds, international development capital and carbon finance to navigate transition‑related risks. The intended outcome of the work stream is to inform and build institutional capacity on how to manage the risks of low‑carbon energy transitions while minimizing the cost and maximizing the opportunities for stakeholders. Under this programme, CPI is actively engaging with policymakers at a regional level, civil society and academic institutions, financial institutions, and state‑owned enterprises.

Position Summary

The Senior Manager role, reporting directly to the Associate Director – Low Carbon Transition, would be responsible for providing essential support in the planning and execution of research initiatives, capacity building activities, collaborative forums, and engagement with stakeholders.

Additionally, the incumbent will be an active contributor to various ongoing projects and programs undertaken by CPI in India.

At the heart of this role is the opportunity to contribute to sustainable finance strategies, foster impactful policy interventions, and actively participate in initiatives that drive positive change at the intersection of climate action and economic development.

The ideal candidate will bring prior experience in some or all thematic areas – low‑carbon transition in power, mobility, industries, and just transition. In addition to the core work, the Senior Manager will be expected to lead and support the communication and engagement with a diverse set of national and international partners from the policy, finance, and corporate spheres, as well as with other CPI teams globally.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Includes the following and others as assigned:

  • Lead the primary responsibility for projects as designated by, and under the direction of, senior management and ad‑hoc advisory committees; develop, manage, and implement complex research assignments and analytical projects, including oversight of all projects within the program
  • Lead the production and completion of high‑quality CPI products, including full reports, executive summaries, blogs, and presentations, working closely with the Communications team.
  • Conduct research and analysis on topics related to the low‑carbon transition in power, mobility, heavy industries, and just transition thematic areas.
  • Co‑author, review, and contribute to the development of long research reports, issue briefs, and blogs.
  • Curriculum development for capacity development programs for various stakeholders, including policymakers and regulators.
  • Coordinate internal and external meetings, workshops, conferences, and other dissemination activities.
  • Engage with clients, policymakers, and investors to provide advice on the implications of research findings.
  • Represent CPI and present research findings at high‑level events and conferences.
  • Establish and maintain excellent relationships with key stakeholders, existing clients, and potential partners in the field of sustainable finance.
  • Guide staff working in that area and coordinate communications with the project team/s, provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff on professional work practices, and lead by example, building a strong sense of commitment and motivation in the team.
  • Support the Associate/ Director on the allocation of staff time in line with budgets
Qualifications & Experience
  • Post Graduate degree in economics, finance, international/sustainable development, public policy, management, or another relevant field and demonstrable (at least 10‑12 years) post qualification experience in the field.
  • Significant professional experience analysing India’s energy transition and knowledge about transition issues and risks.
  • Knowledge of major policies, regulations and developments pertaining to India’s energy sector.
  • Sound understanding of finance; knowledge of public finance in the Indian context preferred.
  • Knowledge about international development finance, financial institutions and carbon finance.
  • Independent, analytical mind with an excellent track record of applying sound financial judgment to complex issues.
  • Flexibility, professionalism, enthusiasm for working as part of a team, and an ability to interact with a diverse array of people.
  • An ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including fluency in English.

Desirable
  • Exposure/Experience in working with the Government, Financial Regulators, domestic and international philanthropy, and DFIs.
Location and compensation:

CPI is hiring for one permanent/fixed-term, full‑time Senior Manager position based in Delhi/NCR.
