Job summary

Merkle India in Mumbai area is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead, develop and improve teams of software engineers to deliver high-quality products, provide technical guidance and ensure alignment with customer requirements and company standards.

You will oversee delivery for Promotions and Loyalty Services, manage client relationships, drive solution design, and participate in scoping, estimation and growth initiatives, with IST working hours and cross-time-zone collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent hands-on experience).
• Experience in promotions, loyalty or martech domains is a plus.
• Cloud certifications and Scrum/Agile certifications are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Delivery Management: Own delivery quality, timelines, KPIs, compliance, and risk mitigation.
• Team Management: Lead multi-disciplinary teams, drive capability building, foster culture, manage utilization.
• Client Management: Act as primary engineering contact, run reviews, manage risks, build trusted‑advisor positioning.
• Stakeholder Management: Align with internal leadership, collaborate across workstreams, represent in leadership forums.
• Scoping & Pre-sales: Partner on new opportunities, lead solution design, maintain estimation frameworks, identify growth opportunities.

Job description

The purpose of this role is to lead, develop and improve teams of software engineers with various skills, so that a high-quality end product is delivered. To provide technical guidance, to support analysis and design in order to deliver products aligned to the customer’s requirements and company standards.

Engineering Managers at Merkle lead delivery for Promotions and Loyalty Services platforms, ensuring quality, performance, and client outcomes across software development, QA, and engineering operations. They manage multi-disciplinary teams, partner with global stakeholders, contribute to solutioning and pre-sales, and make critical decisions on technology, delivery, and people management.

Must Have Skills

• Technical fluency in JavaScript (ES6+), Node.js, MySQL (or similar) RESTful API development, integration, and microservices architecture
• Frontend technologies: HTML5, CSS3, Vue.js (or similar)
• Version control (Git, GitHub) and CI/CD practices
• Strong understanding of system architecture, design principles, and engineering best practices
• Proven leadership in scaling engineering organizations
• Strong client and stakeholder management with global teams
• Excellent communication, influence, and collaboration skill
• Experience with pre-sales, scoping, estimation, and account growth
• People leadership: hiring, performance management, career development

Good to Have Skills

• Perl experience in production environments
• Java (Spring/Spring Boot, Hibernate)
• AWS or other cloud platforms
• QA leadership, automation strategy, and test frameworks
• Containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and DevOps practices
• Domain experience in Promotions, Loyalty, MarTech, or consumer engagement platforms
• Experience in global services / consulting / digital agency environments
• Strong documentation and executive communication skills
