Job summary

FIS is seeking a senior Java backend engineer to design, develop and sustain scalable microservices in a cloud-native environment. You will own end-to-end delivery for critical backend features using Spring Boot, REST APIs, and Kafka-based integrations.

You will collaborate with product and architecture teams, drive best practices, code reviews, and mentoring to elevate engineering standards. Emphasis on reliability, performance and observability.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software development experience with strong expertise in Java 8+, Enterprise Java technologies, and modern development practices.
• Proven experience designing and developing microservices and RESTful APIs using Spring Framework, Spring Boot, and related technologies.
• Strong understanding of object-oriented design, software architecture, design patterns, and scalable application development.
• Hands-on experience with relational databases, SQL optimization, Hibernate/ORM frameworks, and automated unit/integration testing practices.
• Experience with distributed systems and event-driven architectures using Kafka or similar messaging technologies.
• Knowledge of DevOps and cloud-native technologies, including CI/CD, application lifecycle management, Docker, Kubernetes, container orchestration, and cloud platforms (AWS preferred).
• Strong troubleshooting, performance tuning, monitoring, and observability skills, with familiarity in workflow scheduling tools (e.g., Apache Airflow) and basic front-end technologies.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to understand business needs and articulate technical solutions in business-friendly language while effectively working with internal and external customers.
• Self‑motivated and adaptable team player with strong problem-solving, research, multitasking, time management, and presentation skills, demonstrating a positive attitude and willingness to take on challenging tasks while embracing feedback and continuous learning.

What You Bring
