Job summary

FIS seeks a Lead Engineer to design, develop, and deliver scalable Java-based microservices and backend applications using Spring Boot. You will own end-to-end feature delivery, mentor teams, and collaborate with Product Owners and Architects to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions.

Responsibilities include building RESTful APIs, event-driven architectures with Kafka, and cloud deployments on AWS, with a strong emphasis on DevOps, testing, and performance optimization.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software development experience with Java and modern Enterprise Java technologies.
• Experience designing microservices and RESTful APIs with Spring Framework/Spring Boot.
• Strong understanding of OO design, architecture, and scalable application development.

As a Lead Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in driving technical excellence, mentoring engineering teams, collaborating with Product Owners and Architects, and ensuring successful end‑to‑end delivery of business-critical initiatives.

What You Will Be Doing

• Lead the design, development, and delivery of scalable, high-performance Java-based microservices and backend applications using Spring Boot and related technologies.
• Own end‑to‑end feature delivery, including requirements analysis, solution design, development, testing, deployment, production support, and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with Product Owners, Architects, Business Analysts, and stakeholders to translate business requirements into robust, scalable technical solutions.
• Provide technical leadership through architecture discussions, code reviews, mentoring, and the adoption of software engineering best practices.
• Design and implement REST APIs, event‑driven solutions, and system integrations using technologies such as Kafka, relational databases, SQL, and Hibernate.
• Drive DevOps and cloud‑native practices, including CI/CD automation, containerization (Docker), Kubernetes, cloud deployments (AWS preferred), release management, and operational excellence.
• Ensure application reliability, performance, and quality through automated testing, monitoring, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and proactive optimization.

What You Bring

• 10+ years of software development experience with strong expertise in Java 8+, Enterprise Java technologies, and modern development practices.
• Proven experience designing and developing microservices and RESTful APIs using Spring Framework, Spring Boot, and related technologies.
• Strong understanding of object‑oriented design, software architecture, design patterns, and scalable application development.
• Hands‑on experience with relational databases, SQL optimization, Hibernate/ORM frameworks, and automated unit/integration testing practices.
• Experience with distributed systems and event‑driven architectures using Kafka or similar messaging technologies.
• Knowledge of DevOps and cloud‑native technologies, including CI/CD, application lifecycle management, Docker, Kubernetes, container orchestration, and cloud platforms (AWS preferred).
• Strong troubleshooting, performance tuning, monitoring, and observability skills, with familiarity in workflow scheduling tools (e.g., Apache Airflow) and basic front‑end technologies.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to understand business needs and articulate technical solutions in business‑friendly language while effectively working with internal and external customers.
• Self‑motivated and adaptable team player with strong problem‑solving, research, multitasking, time management, and presentation skills, demonstrating a positive attitude and willingness to take on challenging tasks while embracing feedback and continuous learning.

Added Bonus If You Have

• Experience working within the FinTech, Banking, Payments, or Financial Services domain.
• Experience with Kubernetes and container orchestration in large‑scale production environments.
• Exposure to DevOps practices and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or similar platforms.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
• Knowledge of event‑driven architecture and large‑scale distributed systems.
• Familiarity with performance engineering and high‑throughput transaction processing systems.
