Job summary

Kyndryl is seeking a Senior JavaBackend Engineer to design, build, and maintain high-volume mainframe business logic while enabling cloud and mobile integrations. You will refactor legacy code, optimize performance, and contribute to modernization efforts within a hybrid work environment.

The role requires strong expertise in Java, SpringBoot, microservices, AWS, and DevOps practices, with leadership and documentation responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Experience working as a software engineer on complex software projects.
• Proficient in Java with SpringBoot and debugging skills.
• Experience with microservices, RESTful services, and cloud integration.
• Knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases; data mapping and XML/JSON.
• Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, containers, and security.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.

The Role

Your role Bring your specialist knowledge and experience to a company managing 50% of the world’s MIPS and play a critical role in our modernization mission. You’ll be in good company among our global community of experts leading the future of mainframe modernization. Experts who share knowledge openly and collaborate freely. In this role, you’ll design, build and maintain the high-volume business logic that runs on the mainframe. At the same time you’ll play a key role in refactoring legacy code to enable modern cloud and mobile applications to seamlessly interact with the mainframe’s core data.

What you will do

Maintain Performance: Prevent decay and find efficiencies: Monitor the architecture and identify opportunities to optimize code to maintain and enhance mainframe performance.

Debug and Test: Find and fix: Debug, troubleshoot, and analyze complex system interactions to keep mission‑critical applications running.

Develop for the Future: Bridge the gap: As an instrumental player in modernization, you’ll extract business logic from legacy systems for migration or integration with cloud‑based services.

Java, SpringBoot, Awareness of SOLID, Microservices Architecture, Awareness of AWS Services (EC2, Lambda, S3, APIGateway, SQS, SNS, Cloudwatch, ECS etc), CI CD ((Jenkins / Gitlab)) pipelines, SQL, noSQL (Mongo/ DynamoDB), Awareness of Security (Spring and AWS IAM) and Terraform. Design patterns, HLD, LLD, Team co‑ordination, leading a team, System documentation.

Who You Are

Required skills and experience Experience working as a software engineer on complex software projects. Excellent coding skills and solid development experience (Java, Python, .Net etc.) with debugging and problem‑solving skills. Software development methodologies, with demonstrated experience developing scalable and robust software. Experienced in relational and NoSQL databases, data mapping, XML/JSON, REST‑based web services. Knowledge of architecture design - Microservices architecture, containers (Docker & k8s), messaging queues. Deep understanding of OOP and design patterns.

Preferred skills and experience Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Certification in one or more of the hyperscalers (Azure, AWS, and Google GCP) - otherwise, you can obtain certifications with Kyndryl. Experience with DevOps tools and modern engineering practices.
