Job summary

Profusion Systems, a Chicago-based AI-enabled software company with an Ahmedabad engineering team, seeks a senior technical leader to own architecture and releases for one or two client accounts, from requirements to production.

This player-coach role mentors two to four engineers, reviews work, and sets the standard for what is considered done, while engaging in direct client conversations and tradeoff discussions.

Qualifications

• Six+ years building and shipping enterprise web applications in C#/.NET.
• Experience with modern .NET (8/9) and legacy .NET Framework.
• Strong UI skills: React, HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript fundamentals.

Responsibilities

ABOUT PROFUSION SYSTEMS

Profusion Systems is a Chicago-based, AI-enabled custom software development company. Our engineering team in Ahmedabad builds production software for clients across fintech, nonprofit, food and facility services, and SaaS RAG and LLM integrations, Azure AI deployments, document automation, and custom web and mobile applications. Our team works US Pacific hours, which means we collaborate with our clients and leadership in real time, not across a handoff.

We are a small team where individual work is visible. Nothing you build disappears into a large organization, and nothing you neglect does either.

WHAT THIS ROLE ACTUALLY IS

This is not a role where you wait for tickets and hand off problems.

You will be the most senior technical person on one or two client accounts.

That means the architecture is yours, the release is yours, and the answer to "what should we do here?" is expected to come from you — with the tradeoffs laid out — rather than be routed upward.

The other half of the job is people. You will mentor two to four engineers, review their work, and raise the standard of what "done" means on your accounts. We are deliberately hiring a player-coach, not a manager who has stopped building.

WHAT YOU WILL OWN

• End-to-end delivery. Architecture, implementation, testing, and deployment for one or two client accounts — from requirements conversation to production.
• Releases, completely. You build the CI/CD pipeline, you verify what is in the artifact, and you confirm the release is live and working. A release stays yours until it is proven in production — not until it is triggered.
• Solutions, not problems. When you are blocked, you arrive with a recommended path and the tradeoffs behind it. Escalation is for genuinely ambiguous business decisions, not for technical ones inside your scope.
• Technical judgment on your accounts. Routine architectural and implementation decisions are yours to make and defend. We would rather you make a reasoned call and be occasionally wrong than wait for permission.
• Code quality on your pod. Review discipline, test coverage, documentation, and a consistent definition of done that holds when nobody is watching.
• Growing two to four engineers. Structured code review, honest feedback, and a deliberate plan to move each person up a level. Some of them are being groomed toward lead roles — your success includes theirs.
• Direct client conversations. You explain your own architecture, timelines, and tradeoffs to the client. You will not have someone translating your work for you.

WHAT YOU NEED TO HAVE

• 6+ years building and shipping enterprise web applications in C#/.NET, including modern .NET (8/9) and legacy .NET Framework
• ASP.NET Core and MVC, Web API, REST service design, Entity Framework / EF Core
• React (or a comparable modern JavaScript framework), plus solid HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript fundamentals
• SQL Server and T-SQL, including relational data modeling and query performance work
• Azure — App Service, Functions, Azure SQL, Key Vault, and Blob Storage in production
• Azure DevOps — demonstrable experience building and owning CI/CD pipelines, not only consuming pipelines someone else configured
• Git branching and release strategy for a team, including hotfix workflow
• Object-oriented design, unit testing, and integration testing as habits rather than afterthoughts
• Third-party platform and API integration, including debugging failures you did not cause
• Agile delivery across concurrent workstreams, working directly with product owners and [e-mail]
• Fluent written and spoken English — this role is client-facing
• A track record of mentoring engineers, formally or informally, that a reference will confirm

NICE TO HAVE

• Azure AI Services, Azure OpenAI, RAG pipelines, or vector databases (Pinecone, Weaviate)
• Docker and containerized deployment
• React Native or other mobile experience
• Fintech, lending, or another regulated-industry background
• Test-driven development
• Experience as a formal tech lead or in a comparable role

How we will evaluate you

We screen for judgment as hard as we screen for stack knowledge, because judgment is the part of this role that cannot be trained quickly.

Expect scenario questions: a release you owned that went wrong and what you checked before you deployed; a decision you made without complete information; a time your call was wrong and how you found out.

Expect to walk us through code you wrote and defend the design choices in it.

Years of experience will not by itself qualify you here, and fewer years will not by itself disqualify you.
