Job summary

Dover is seeking a Senior FreeCAD Engineer for a remote contractor role to contribute expertise on a dynamic customer project. You will apply your parametric CAD modeling and Python scripting to build and validate assemblies, generate precise technical drawings, and ensure high-quality deliverables.

You will apply GD&T and DFM principles to ensure manufacturability, conduct QA checks, and collaborate with the team to optimize model accuracy and process improvements.

Qualifications

• Two or more years in mechanical design with a focus on parametric CAD modeling.
• Strong fundamentals in GD&T and manufacturing-ready drawings.
• Experience building and validating assemblies in CAD environments.
• Familiarity with CAD automation and scripting is a plus.

Responsibilities

Scope of Work

• Create, modify, and validate detailed parametric CAD models in FreeCAD to specified project requirements.


• Develop and optimize mechanical assemblies, leveraging best practices in assembly design and component integration.


• Apply rigorous Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles to ensure manufacturability and quality.


• Generate clear, precise technical drawings and documentation for engineering review and downstream processes.


• Conduct thorough engineering QA reviews of CAD models and drawings to identify, communicate, and help resolve issues.


• Utilize Python scripting for CAD automation tasks, streamlining repetitive or complex modeling operations (highly preferred, not mandatory).


• Collaborate by providing insightful feedback on model accuracy, design intent, and process improvements.

Preferred Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, product design, or industrial engineering or any other related field with a focus on parametric CAD modeling.


• Advanced proficiency in FreeCAD or equivalent parametric CAD platforms.


• Strong knowledge of mechanical design fundamentals, including GD&T and DFM best practices.


• Demonstrated ability to produce comprehensive technical drawings and documentation for manufacturing and assembly.


• Experience conducting engineering QA and verifying model integrity and compliance with specifications.


• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills relevant to remote, project-based collaboration.
