Job summary

Arcadis is looking for an experienced electrical engineer to join our Design & Engineering team in India, focusing on substation secondary systems. The ideal candidate will have over 7 years of experience in substation secondary design, particularly within a consulting environment, and a Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.

The role involves managing engineering deliverables, conducting quality checks, and leading projects to ensure high-quality designs that comply with international standards.

Qualifications

• 7+ years’ experience in substation secondary design, preferably in a consulting environment.
• Consulting experience in UK power projects is preferred.
• Experience in CAD documentation to UK Energy standards and other international standards.

Role Description

Working within our Design & Engineering teams, you’ll create iconic and groundbreaking structures and spaces that transform the world around us, focusing on substation secondary systems for the UK &ire.

Role Accountabilities

• Preparing and reviewing engineering deliverables with UK&I Energy Transition Team.
• High voltage transmission and distribution substations secondary systems electrical design: P&C schematics, wiring diagrams, P&C room layout, Intelligent Electronic Design (IED) selection.
• Conducting protection coordination and developing tripping schemes.
• Taking personal responsibility for the preparation of detailed engineering documentation and leading the engineering effort for projects including providing technical and performance oversight for team members.
• Managing selected projects, project tasks/responsibilities as assigned, and design processes to meet agreed budget, quality, and timeframe targets.
• Delivering fully documented designs to meet client objectives and Arcadis quality system requirements.
• Developing the technical competency of direct reports/junior team members and ensuring application of relevant international/UK standards and engineering knowledge in projects.
• Applying engineering knowledge, techniques and tools complying with international design standards and UK codes & standards.
• Preparing documents and drawing packages for appropriate project design submission stage complying with codes and standards and delivering high‑quality design.
• Conducting internal review and quality checks of engineering drawings and design calculations to ensure compliance with project requirements.
• Preparing and registering all relevant documentation and design reports to ensure accuracy and compliance with Arcadis and customer requirements.
• Leading interdisciplinary coordination as required for the project.
• Leading technical issue resolution processes.
• Liaising with other disciplines to ensure all requirements are understood.
• Understanding scope and changes in scope when it arises.
• Using required software packages for design and delivery.

Qualifications And Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from a recognized university.
• 7+ years’ experience in substation secondary design, preferably in a consulting environment.
• Consulting experience in UK power projects is preferred.
• Experience in CAD documentation to UK Energy standards and other international standards.
• Experience in substation processes from concept stage to construction and as‑built.
• Excellent English written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent mathematical skills applied in engineering calculations.
• Organizational skills and proactive approach in project management.
• Ability to lead, with good influencing, motivating and delegating skills.
• Active continuing development of technical knowledge and new emerging technology through regular training.
• Professional registration with any leading engineering body such as IET UK is preferred.
• Ability to develop complex models in ETAP software and conduct protection coordination.
• Computational design, design algorithms and automation of data manipulation.

Highly Regarded Skills

• Ability to develop cable thermal rating design using CYMCAP / AMTECH for LV systems design.
• Ability to develop complex earthing and induction models in CDEGS earthing system software.
• Ability to develop maintenance strategies and procedures, commissioning plans and documentation.
• 2+ years’ experience in designing & drafting electrical infrastructure in the UK, general familiarity with the electricity supply industry, electricity transmission and distribution practices.
• Knowledge of drafting and BIM, how to define BIM outcomes, BIM processes, how to coordinate a BIM project within the 3D environment and how to apply design to the models they produce.
• Computational design, design algorithms and automation of data manipulation.
