Job summary

WSP in India seeks a Senior Power System Studies Engineer to join the GCC India office. The role involves performing electrical studies for utility and industrial clients, including generation facilities, substations, transmission and distribution systems.

Candidate will work with tools such as PSS/E, PSLF, PowerWorld, ETAP, and SKM-PTW, collaborate across teams, and ensure safety and regulatory compliance. 8–12 years experience and BE in Electrical required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
  • 8–12 years of power system studies experience.
  • Must have strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.
  • Understanding of electrical engineering as applied to design of large capital projects.
  • Familiarity with codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills when engaging with engineers and non‑engineers.
  • Proven self‑leadership with attention to detail and multitasking.

Responsibilities

  • Protective relaying: short circuit and coordination, relay settings calculation, SCADA integration; software: SEL/GE/ETAP.
  • Power system planning: power flow, contingencies, voltage stability margins; scripting in Python.
  • Substation design studies: grounding, insulation coordination, power quality, transient simulation; PSCAD/CDEGS.

Job Description

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Power System Studies Engineer to sit within our GCC India office. The successful applicant will be responsible for performing electrical studies for utility and industrial/commercial clients. Applicable power systems primarily include conventional and renewable generation facilities, substations, transmission systems, and distribution systems.

Responsibilities
  • Protective Relaying: short circuit and symmetrical component analysis, time‑current coordination, protection scheme and criteria development, relay settings calculation, integration with SCADA systems, NERC compliance, and arc flash analysis. Applicable software: AcSELerator Quickset (SEL‑5030), AcSELerator Architect, GE Enervista, ASPEN Oneliner, SKM‑PTW, ETAP, RSCAD/RTDS
  • Power System Planning Studies: steady‑state real and reactive power flow including outage contingencies, generation interconnect feasibility, P‑V and Q‑V analysis for voltage stability margins, dynamic stability performance, automation of large batch simulations. Applicable Software: PSS/E, PSLF, PowerWorld, PowerGEM TARA, Python Scripting
  • Infrastructure Design Studies: substation grounding, corona and electric and magnetic fields, insulation coordination (lightning, switching surge, and contamination performance), transient (time domain) simulation, power quality (harmonics, voltage flicker, over/under voltage, etc.), motor starting, AC interference (transmission line interaction with railroads and pipelines). Applicable Software: CDEGS, ATP‑EMTP, PSCAD
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • 8‑12 years of power system studies experience.
  • Must have strong troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.
  • General understanding of electrical engineering as applied in design engineering of large capital projects.
  • Familiarity with relevant engineering and electrical construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record‑keeping requirements.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non‑engineering audience.
  • Proficient self‑leadership with attention to detail, multi‑tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules, conducive to project‑specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project‑specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Engineer in Training certification or PE certification is desirable but not required.
  • Master’s degree with emphasis in power systems preferred.
  • Experience working with models from NERC regional entities (WECC, MRO, SERC etc.), NERC compliance
  • Power system courses covering topics such as three‑phase power, load flow and reactive compensation, protective relaying, symmetrical components, transmission line theory, power system transients, dynamic stability, and power system electromagnetics
