Job summary

Ramboll Chennai seeks an experienced Electrical Project Engineer to design building services, including LV/MV power, lighting, earthing, fire and ELV systems. You will prepare layouts, calculations and specifications from concept through tender design.

You will review designs, perform load estimations, mentor juniors, coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams, ensure QA/QC and HSE compliance, and support local authorities for approvals.

Qualifications

• BE Electrical with 5+ years of professional experience; minimum 3 years in Middle East projects.
• Proven track record in building services design across sectors (high rise, commercial, residential, retail, healthcare, etc).
• Proven Project Engineer on several projects.
• Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams and coordinating with architectural, engineering and planning disciplines.
• Knowledge of LV, Lighting, ELV and FA/FLS design principles.
• System overview knowledge of building mechanical and public health systems.
• Adapt to Middle East business culture and local regulations.
• Experience in electrical design to BS-EN, NEC, CIBSE, NFPA standards.
• Familiar with local authorities’ regulations (DEWA, ADDC, SEC, SBC, Etisalat, Du, Civil Defence).
• Capable of manual and computer-aided calculations; strong problem solving and technical analyses.
• Proficient with LV power system modelling and lighting software (Amtech, Dialux Evo/Relux) and lightning protection sizing.
• MS Office proficiency; knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit and Navisworks recommended.
• Knowledge of BIM automation/digitalisation and sustainable design (LEED/Estidama).
• Self-motivated, team player, able to work independently and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Undertake electrical systems design for building projects, including MV/LV power, lighting, earthing, fire alarm, ICT, security and other ELV systems; prepare layouts, schematics, calculations, reports and specifications from concept to tender design.
• Support technical reviews of design deliverables related to electrical system design.
• Prepare load estimations and coordinate with other disciplines and third parties.
• Assist Senior Engineer with space planning, reports and preliminary calculations during concept design.
• Collaborate with remote design teams on Middle East projects and ensure compliance with local requirements.
• Provide electrical engineering support to obtain local authorities’ approvals; engage when required.
• Mentor and coach junior/graduate engineers; review their work for quality.
• Forecast, plan and manage own workload; advise on design changes for best practice.

Job description

• Undertake electrical systems design, predominantly for building projects, including but not limited to MV and LV power systems, normal & emergency lighting systems, earthing & lightning protection systems, fire alarm and life safety systems, ICT, security systems and other ELV systems. To include preparation and delivery of design layouts, schematics, calculations, reports and specification from concept to tender design.
• Support for conducting primary technical reviews on design deliverables related to electrical system design.
• Preparation of load estimation for the project, including coordination with other disciplines and third party for electrical load and other requirements.
• Assist to Senior Engineer for space planning, report and preliminary calculations during concept design stage.
• Where design on middle east projects is being performed remotely with other Ramboll offices or by subconsultant, collaborate closely with those remote design teams and ensure compliance with local requirements and where directed, assist and represent the satisfactory performance of their services to local clients and stakeholders.
• Provide electrical engineering technical support and engage personally where required to successfully enable Local Authorities’ approvals on all projects.
• Mentor and coach junior and graduate engineers where directed.
• Check and review electrical design work undertaken by junior and graduate engineers.
• Forecast, plan and manage own workload and progress against agreed plan and criteria.
• Evaluate and advise to lead/senior engineer on electrical related design changes to ensure change management.
• Strong attention to detail, team working, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
• Ensure to follow QA/QC procedures in the projects.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ensure that Health & Safety is embedded into all work practices in line with company policies.

Qualification

• BE Electrical with 5+years of professional experience, out of which a minimum of 3 years should be in Middle East projects as an added advantage.
• Proven track record in building services design with different types of sectors, including high rise, commercial, residential, retail, healthcare, industrial, educational, refurbishment, etc.
• Proven record as a Project Engineer on several projects.
• Experienced in working within teams on multi-disciplinary projects and interacting with a wide range of architectural, engineering and planning disciplines.
• Knowledge of electrical engineering principles for LV, Lighting, ELV and FA/FLS design.
• System overview knowledge of buildings mechanical and public health systems.
• An ability to adapt to different working styles and the unique business culture of the Middle East.
• Experienced in electrical design to BS-EN, NEC, CIBSE, NFPA standards.
• A knowledge and experience of local statutory authorities’ regulations and submission requirements across Middle East, mainly UAE and KSA, such as DEWA, ADDC, SEC, SBC, Etisalat, Du, Civil Defence etc.
• Proven ability to carry out both manual and computer aided calculations, problem solving, technical analyses, etc.
• Proficient in LV power system modelling and analysis software such as Amtech (or similar), lighting software (Dialux Evo, Relux, or similar), Lightning Protection (Strike Risk or similar) and generator sizing.
• Competent use of relevant software such as MS Office suite.
• Knowledge and experience of AutoCAD, Autodesk Revit and Navisworks would be recommended.
• Knowledge of BIM automation / digitalisation techniques and standards.
• Awareness of sustainable design practices and technologies, preferably having worked on LEED or Estidama certified projects.
