Job description

About Us:

NeoSky India Limited is a leading provider of innovative drone solutions serving industries and government sectors. NeoSky is a wholly owned subsidiary of RattanIndia Enterprises Limited (REL). The RattanIndia Group is a business conglomerate with two listed companies, a market capitalisation of around Rs. 20,000 Cr, and approximately 2,700 employees. REL focuses on new-age technology businesses, including e-commerce, drones, electric vehicles, fintech, and fashion brands.

Job Overview:

We are seeking a Senior Embedded Systems Engineer with 6+ years of experience in embedded hardware, firmware, and system integration to take technical ownership of critical embedded subsystems for our Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) platforms. The role covers system architecture, custom electronics, microcontroller firmware, communication interfaces, sensor and actuator integration, diagnostics, verification, and transition to production. You will collaborate with controls, autonomy, mechanical, manufacturing, quality, and flight-test teams to deliver reliable, safe, and production-ready UAV systems. This is a hands‑on senior individual‑contributor role that also requires design leadership, structured problem‑solving, and mentoring of engineers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Own the architecture and end-to-end technical design of embedded hardware and firmware subsystems for UAV platforms.
  • Translate system-level requirements into detailed hardware and firmware specifications, interface control documents, design records, and verification criteria.
  • Design schematics and multilayer PCBs for microcontrollers, sensors, power management, actuator interfaces, payloads, and communication modules.
  • Select and qualify electronic components based on performance, power consumption, reliability, availability, lifecycle, manufacturability, and cost.
  • Define PCB stack-up and layout constraints, and review mixed-signal, high-current, and high-speed designs for signal integrity, power integrity, thermal performance, EMI/EMC, DFM, and DFT.
  • Lead hardware prototyping, board bring-up, testing, and root-cause debugging using oscilloscopes, logic analysers, JTAG/SWD debuggers, CAN analysers, and power-measurement equipment.
  • Develop and review embedded C/C++ firmware for ARM Cortex-M/STM32 platforms using bare-metal and real-time operating system architectures.
  • Implement and validate low-level drivers and MCU functions, including interrupts, timers, DMA, ADC, PWM, watchdogs, memory interfaces, and non-volatile storage.
  • Design and implement communication interfaces and protocol stacks, including UART, SPI, I2C, CAN/CAN FD, USB, Ethernet, RS-422/RS-485, MAVLink, and DroneCAN, as applicable.
  • Implement bootloaders, robust firmware-update mechanisms, diagnostics, event logging, fault detection, graceful degradation, and recovery strategies.
  • Integrate IMUs, GNSS receivers, magnetometers, barometers, LiDAR, cameras, payloads, actuators, and power subsystems with appropriate calibration, timing, and data-integrity controls.
  • Implement and optimise flight‑control, navigation, and sensor‑fusion software in collaboration with controls and autonomy engineers.
  • Develop embedded Linux user‑space applications, hardware-interface libraries, and device integrations for companion computers where required.
  • Design reliable distributed‑computing interfaces among flight controllers, companion computers, payloads, communication modules, and power‑management subsystems.
  • Define and execute unit, integration, hardware‑in‑the‑loop, system, environmental, and field‑test procedures with requirements traceability and documented acceptance criteria.
  • Lead investigation and corrective action for hardware, firmware, production, flight‑test, and field failures.
  • Support EVT/DVT, design release, BOM management, alternate‑part qualification, supplier coordination, manufacturing test fixtures, and transition from prototype to production.
  • Maintain design and test documentation, configuration control, and coding/design standards; conduct technical reviews, mentor engineers, and establish embedded‑system best practices.
Key Skills and Competencies:
  • 6+ years of hands‑on embedded product development, with ownership from requirements and architecture through validation and production.
  • Strong Embedded C/C++ and working Python skills for test automation, data analysis, and engineering tools.
  • Strong experience with ARM Cortex-M/STM32, bare‑metal firmware, RTOS, memory management, timing analysis, and performance optimisation.
  • Hands‑on capability in embedded hardware architecture, schematic design, PCB review, board bring‑up, rework, and laboratory debugging.
  • Proficiency in Altium Designer or OrCAD, with sound understanding of multilayer, mixed‑signal, high‑current, thermal, signal/power integrity, EMI/EMC, DFM, and DFT design.
  • Strong knowledge of UART, SPI, I2C, CAN/CAN FD, USB, Ethernet, PWM, and relevant UAV communication protocols.
  • Working knowledge of Linux, Git, issue tracking, code reviews, static analysis, and automated build/test workflows.
  • Experience with sensor and actuator integration, calibration, timestamping, synchronisation, digital filtering, and Kalman‑estimation fundamentals.
  • Ability to define requirements, interfaces, traceability, test procedures, technical risks, and design‑verification evidence.
  • Strong troubleshooting, reliability, fault‑tolerance, documentation, communication, design‑review, and mentoring skills.
  • UAV, robotics, or aerospace experience involving autopilots, MAVLink, DroneCAN, NVIDIA Jetson/Raspberry Pi, environmental qualification, or safety‑critical products is preferred.
Qualifications:

B.E./B.Tech or M.E./M.Tech in Electronics and Communication, Electrical/Electronics, Instrumentation, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline, with 6+ years of relevant experience in embedded hardware, firmware, and system integration. Delivery of at least two complete product‑development cycles from concept to production is strongly preferred.
