Role Overview

We are looking for a Senior DSP Design Engineer – SDR & Satellite Communications to lead the development of high-reliability communication modems for space systems. In this role, you will architect and deliver FPGA-based SDR modem solutions for telemetry, telecommand, and high-throughput satellite links (DVB-S2/S2X).

You will work at the intersection of digital signal processing, RF systems, and FPGA implementation, driving mission-critical communication subsystems from concept to flight readiness. This is a high-impact opportunity to contribute directly to next-generation satellite platforms and space exploration technologies while collaborating with cross-functional teams in RF, hardware, and systems engineering.

  • Architect end-to-end SDR communication modems for telemetry (TM), telecommand (TC), and DVB-S2/S2X high-throughput satellite links
  • Design and optimize PHY-layer algorithms including synchronization (carrier, timing, frame), modulation, pulse shaping, and packetization
  • Develop robust error correction and detection schemes (LDPC, BCH, Turbo, Reed‑Solomon) to ensure high link reliability
  • Implement and validate DVB‑S2/S2X modem chains, including APSK modulation, framing, and Adaptive Coding & Modulation (ACM)
  • Perform link budget analysis and optimize spectral efficiency, throughput, and link margin under real‑world constraints
  • Design RF sampling architectures (direct RF, IF sampling, multi‑Nyquist techniques) and optimize ADC/DAC performance
  • Collaborate with FPGA teams to build high-throughput baseband pipelines using Xilinx platforms, AXI4‑Stream, and fixed‑point DSP
  • Integrate modem solutions with RF transceivers (AD9361, AD9371, AFE7950) and high‑speed interfaces (JESD204B/C)
  • Develop advanced algorithms for channel impairment mitigation (CFO correction, Doppler compensation, phase noise, equalization)
  • Lead verification and validation efforts, including BER/FER analysis, Eb/N0 characterization, HIL testing, and OTA validation
  • Support hardware bring‑up, debugging, and system integration using lab instrumentation (VSA/VSG, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes)
  • Collaborate across teams to define ICDs, system budgets, and performance metrics, contributing to design reviews (PDR/CDR)
Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Hands‑on experience with DVB‑S2 / DVB‑S2X implementations
  • Synchronization (carrier, timing, frame), estimation & detection theory
  • Multi‑rate DSP and real‑time signal processing
  • Nyquist and multi‑Nyquist sampling, aliasing, spectral planning
  • AXI interfaces, streaming architectures, timing closure
  • RF impairments (phase noise, IQ imbalance, non‑linearity)
  • Interfaces: JESD204B/C, LVDS, DUC/DDC processing
  • Experience with transceivers like AD9361, AD9371, AFE7950
  • MATLAB / Python for link‑level simulation and algorithm development
  • Familiarity with HDL simulation and verification
Experience
  • 5+ years in DSP, SDR, or modem design for communication systems
  • Proven experience in satellite communications, aerospace, or defense systems
  • Track record of delivering high‑reliability, real-time communication systems
