8byte is seeking a Senior DevOps / SRE Engineer to own architecture, security, scalability, and reliability of cloud-native infrastructure on AWS. You will drive CI/CD, container orchestration, IaC, and observability for enterprise AI products serving BFSI clients across India and GCC.

This high-ownership role requires mentorship of juniors, architectural decision-making, and enforcing cloud security best practices across multi-cloud environments.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on DevOps/SRE/infrastructure engineering experience in enterprise-grade environments.

What is the role?

As a Senior DevOps / SRE Engineer at 8byte, you will own and drive the architecture, security, scalability, and reliability of infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment workflows across our cloud-native platform on AWS. You will work closely with engineering leadership and product teams to build resilient, highly available, and secure systems that power our enterprise AI products for BFSI clients across India and the GCC. Your work will directly impact the performance, stability, and security posture of mission-critical systems in regulated environments.

This is a high-ownership role for a seasoned DevOps, SRE, or infrastructure professional who takes pride in clean infrastructure-as-code, zero-downtime CI/CD deployments, and systems that run smoothly without alert fatigue. You will be expected to make independent architectural decisions, mentor junior engineers, lead proactive platform improvements, and set the technical bar for reliability, scalability, and Cloud Security best practices.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

• CI/CD Leadership: Design, build, and optimize enterprise-grade CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, ensuring fast, automated, and zero-downtime delivery across all environments—integrating security scanning, policy enforcement, and rollback capabilities.

• Kubernetes & Container Orchestration: Own the production deployment, scaling, and operational management of containerised microservices using Docker and Kubernetes, including cluster upgrades, service mesh integration (e.g., Istio/Linkerd), and autoscaling strategies.

• Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Architect, provision, and evolve multi-cloud and AWS-centric infrastructure using Terraform, enforcing consistency, repeatability, and strict Cloud Security and compliance standards across environments.

• Observability & SRE: Drive the company-wide monitoring and observability strategy using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, or Datadog, setting up meaningful SLO/SLA tracking, alerting, and incident response workflows aligned with SRE principles.

• Root Cause & Reliability Engineering: Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and post-mortems for complex infrastructure issues, systematically eliminating repeat incidents and operational toil—core to SRE practice.

• Automation & Internal Tooling: Architect and maintain advanced automation scripts and internal CLI tools in Python or Bash to boost developer velocity across engineering teams, integrating with CI/CD, Kubernetes, and Terraform workflows.

• Security & Compliance: Enforce and continuously improve Cloud Security best practices, zero-trust access controls, secrets management (e.g., AWS Secrets Manager, HashiCorp Vault), and compliance frameworks (e.g., ISO 27001, PCI-DSS) required by regulated BFSI clients.

• Cross-Functional Architecture: Partner closely with product and core AI engineering teams to support complex feature rollouts without compromising system stability, performance, or security—ensuring alignment with DevOps and SRE maturity goals.

• Documentation & Standards: Maintain clear, up-to-date architectural decision records (ADRs), runbooks, disaster recovery plans, and operational guidelines to ensure continuity and scalability.

Attributes

• 5+ years of hands-on experience in DevOps, SRE, or infrastructure engineering managing high-throughput production environments—ideally in BFSI, fintech, or regulated SaaS sectors.

• Advanced expertise in CI/CD principles and deep practical experience designing automated pipelines with GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or equivalent tools—including security gates, canary deployments, and GitOps workflows.

• Production-grade experience with Docker and Kubernetes cluster administration, including ingress controllers, service meshes, auto-scaling (HPA/VPA), and cluster lifecycle management.

• Deep proficiency with Terraform or equivalent IaC frameworks, with complex, multi-environment production deployments on AWS to demonstrate—preferably with state management, backend locking, and security hardening.

• Strong scripting fluency in Python and/or Bash for automation, internal tooling, API integrations, and SRE-style reliability engineering.

• Expert working knowledge of AWS (preferred), including core networking (VPC, Route53, Direct Connect), IAM policies, security groups, Cloud Security services (e.g., GuardDuty, KMS, Secrets Manager), and cost‑optimization strategies.

• Proven track record setting up and managing end‑to‑end monitoring, logging, and observability stacks at scale—leveraging Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, or Datadog with SRE-style alerting and dashboards.

• A security‑first mindset with practical expertise in Cloud Security, secrets management (e.g., Vault, AWS Secrets Manager), encryption at rest/in transit, and zero‑trust network architectures.

• Demonstrated leadership: Comfortable navigating ambiguity, prioritizing independently, mentoring peers, and relentlessly automating away manual work—core to the DevOps and SRE culture.

• Experience working in fast‑paced product startups, high‑growth scale‑ups, or regulated fintech/BFSI environments is a strong plus.
