Job summary

Wipro in Chennai is seeking a Senior Developer / DevOps Platform Engineer with 5 to 7 years of experience to own and extend Backstage, build GitOps pipelines, and enable one-click provisioning across Kubernetes, OpenShift, AKS, and VM targets.

You will collaborate with platform architects, security, and product owners to translate requirements into production-grade platform features, implement policy controls with OPA/Kyverno, and contribute to observability, runbooks, and handover documentation.

Qualifications

• 5–7 years of hands-on DevOps/platform engineering experience.
• Experience with Backstage, TypeScript, and plugin development.
• Proficient in GitOps pipelines and cloud-native tooling.
• Strong understanding of Kubernetes/OpenShift and networking.

Responsibilities

• Own and extend Backstage: develop custom plugins, templates, actions, and catalog integrations.
• Build and maintain GitOps pipelines (GitHub Actions + Argo CD) covering build, test, security scan, promotion, and rollback workflows.
• Author Crossplane XRDs, compositions, and providers for one-click self-service provisioning across Kubernetes, OpenShift, AKS, and VM targets.
• Integrate Backstage with Crossplane, Argo CD, Vault, OPA, Prometheus, and ITSM/CMDB tooling.
• Implement security controls: Kyverno/OPA policies, Vault secrets management, RBAC, and audit logging across the provisioning chain.
• Build observability coverage (metrics, traces, logs) and surface platform health via dashboards.
• Manage Backstage upgrades safely; maintain upgrade-safe extension patterns and document decisions.
• Write runbooks, support docs, and onboarding guides for handover and evolution.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Own and extend Backstage: develop custom plugins, software templates, scaffolder actions, and catalog integrations that reduce developer friction
• Build and maintain GitOps pipelines (GitHub Actions + Argo CD) covering build, test, security scan, promotion, and rollback workflows
• Author Crossplane XRDs, compositions, and providers to enable one-click self-service provisioning across Kubernetes, OpenShift, AKS, and VM targets
• Integrate Backstage with downstream systems: Crossplane, Argo CD, Vault, OPA, Prometheus, and internal ITSM/CMDB tooling
• Implement and enforce security controls: Kyverno/OPA policies, Vault secrets management, RBAC, and audit logging across the full provisioning chain
• Build observability coverage (metrics, traces, logs) and surface platform health via Backstage and AIOps dashboards
• Manage Backstage upgrades without breaking custom plugins — maintain upgrade-safe extension patterns and document architectural decisions
• Write runbooks, support documentation, and onboarding guides so that what you build can be handed over and evolved by others
• Participate in platform support rotation: triage issues, resolve incidents, and close the feedback loop back into the product backlog
• Collaborate with platform architects, security, and product owners to translate requirements into production-grade platform features
