Job summary

Trunks Company in Jaipur is seeking a Design Engineer to lead the design and development of trunks, from concept through final approval, ensuring functionality, aesthetics, and client requirements. You will work with manufacturing and quality teams on sheet metal components, CNC processes, rotary mechanisms, and plastics.

Prototyping, 2D/3D drawings, and BOM management are core responsibilities, with occasional travel.

Qualifications

• Minimum 7 years manufacturing experience (furniture/automobile).
• Proficient in SolidWorks for 3D models and drawings.
• Experience with BOM/BOQ, prototyping, and testing.
• Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication.
• Willingness to travel as required.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and development of trunks from ideation to final design.
• Develop aesthetically appealing trunk designs with finish and textures.
• Design and develop sheet metal components, CNC machining, and plastics.
• Collaborate with manufacturing to ensure manufacturability and cost-effectiveness.
• Conduct feasibility studies to ensure functionality and reliability.
• Create 3D assemblies and 2D drawings using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
• Produce detailed drawings with dimensions and tolerances for trunk components.
• Prepare and manage BOMs and ensure material accuracy.
• Design and develop prototypes and support testing and validation.
• Work with cross-functional teams to incorporate feedback and stay updated on trends.
• Adhere to safety standards and IP rights.

Job description

We are seeking a skilled Design Engineer to join our company. The Design Engineer will be responsible for designing and developing various products using multiple software. The ideal candidate should have expertise in sheet metal design, CNC machining, rotary mechanisms, plastics, and mechanical engineering principles. Experience with laser cutting processes will be an added advantage. The Design Engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful execution of design projects.

Job Skills:

• Deep knowledge of materials like brass, steel, wood, leather, sheet metal and other high-quality raw materials.
• Strong skills in product conceptualization, prototyping, and design iteration,ensuring designs meet functional, aesthetic, and manufacturing requirements.
• Ability to analyze design challenges and find practical solutions.
• Ability to design hinges, locking mechanisms, and structural supports for heavy-duty usage.

Major responsibilities-

• New Trunk Models: Lead the design and development of trunks, from ideation to final design approval, ensuring they meet functional, aesthetic, and client requirements.
• Aesthetic Innovation: Develop visually appealing trunk designs, focusing on finish, textures, and customizability to appeal to diverse client segments.
• Design and develop products, focusing on sheet metal components, CNC machining, rotary mechanisms, plastics also can provide input to machine format cutting drawing/ nesting.
• Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are manufactural, cost-effective, and meet quality standards.
• Conduct feasibility studies and analyse design concepts to ensure functionality, reliability, and performance.

2D Drawings & Drafting

• Utilize SolidWorks software to create 3D functional models assembly, drawings, and detailed part drawings.
• Generate detailed technical drawings, including dimensions, tolerances, and material specifications, specifically for trunk components like handles, wheels, hinges and locks.
• Create accurate 2D technical drawings using software like AutoCAD or similar tools.
• Ensure drawings meet product standards and specifications.
• Modify and revise designs as per project requirements.

Bill of Quantity & Bill of Materials (BOQ & BOM)

• Prepare and manage detailed BOMs for each product cycle.
• Ensure the accuracy of materials, components, and quantities.
• Collaborate with procurement and manufacturing teams for BOM validation.

Prototyping & Testing

• Design and develop prototypes based on product specifications.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams for prototype testing and validation.
• Identify and address design issues during prototyping to improve final output.
• Support prototype development, testing, and validation activities.

Team & training

• Work closely with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, quality assurance, and marketing, to understand project requirements and incorporate feedback into designs.
• Stay updated with industry trends, advancements in manufacturing processes, and new materials to drive innovation and improve design efficiency.
• Adhere to company policies and industry regulations, including safety standards and intellectual property rights.

Education-

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Advanced degree is a plus.

Experience-

Minimum 7 yrs manufacturing industry like furniture/automobile.

Location-

This position is based in Jaipur, with occasional travel required.
