About the role
Enable data driven decision making across the Tesco business globally by developing analytics solutions using a combination of math, tech and business knowledge.
Responsibilities
- Follow the Business Code of Conduct and act with integrity and due diligence.
- Understand business needs and possess an in‑depth knowledge of Tesco processes.
- Build on existing Tesco processes and knowledge by applying continuous improvement tools and techniques.
- Complete tasks and transactions within agreed KPIs.
- Analyze solution alternatives to solve problems.
- Engage with business & functional partners to understand priorities, ask relevant questions and scope these into an analytical solution document that demonstrates how data science will improve decision making.
- Prepare analytical datasets by leveraging multiple complex data sources.
- Build statistical models and machine‑learning algorithms with practitioner‑level competency.
- Write structured, modularised, codified algorithms using continuous improvement principles, creating knowledge assets and reusable modules on GitHub, Wiki, etc.
- Build an easy visualization layer on top of algorithms to empower end‑users to make decisions – using a visualization platform such as Tableau or Python, or through a recommendation set presented via PPTs.
- Work with the line manager to ensure application/consumption and proactively identify opportunities to help the larger Tesco business improve.
You will need
- Applied Math: Applied Statistics, Design of Experiments.
- Tech: SQL, Hadoop, Spark, Python, Tableau, MS Excel, MS Merchandising, Operations, Finance or Digital PowerPoint, GitHub.
- Business: Basic understanding of the retail domain.
- Soft Skills: Analytical Thinking & Problem Solving, Storyboarding, Articulate communication.
- 2–4 years experience in data‑science application in retail, using techniques such as regression, decision trees, forecasting, optimization, CPG‑preferred algorithms, clustering, NLP.
- Functional experience in Marketing, Supply Chain, Customer, Merchandising, Operations, Finance or Digital.
