About the role
As a Lead Decision Scientist, you will drive enterprise analytics and partner with cross‑functional teams across Tesco to enable data‑driven decisions and deliver on key strategic priorities.
Key responsibilities
- Represent Talent Acquisition in all forums and seminars pertaining to process, compliance and audit.
- Perform other miscellaneous duties as required by management.
- Drive continuous improvement culture and implement CI projects and innovations within the team.
- Engage with business and functional partners to understand priorities, ask relevant questions and scope the same into an analytical solution document showing how applications of data science will improve decision making.
- Deep understanding of techniques to prepare analytical datasets leveraging multiple complex data sources.
- Build statistical models and ML algorithms with practitioner level competency.
- Write structured, modular and codified algorithms using Continuous Improvement principles (development of knowledge assets and reusable modules on GitHub, Wiki, etc) with expert competency.
- Build easy visualization layer on top of the algorithms and/or deliver a recommendation set through presentations to empower end‑users to take decisions (e.g. Tableau, Python, PowerPoint).
- Proactively drive consumption of solutions developed by the team and own the initiatives to identify and address areas of improvement in the larger Tesco business.
- Keep up to date with the latest in data science and retail analytics and disseminate the knowledge among colleagues.
- Mentor and lead a small team of Applied Data Scientists to deliver high‑impact analytics projects.
Required experience and skills
- 5+ years of experience in data science application in industries such as retail, consumer packaged goods, telecom or hospitality.
- Experience with regression, decision trees, forecasting, optimisation, clustering, NLP, and delivery of analytics solutions.
- Proficiency in SQL, Hadoop, Spark, Python, Tableau, MS Excel and PowerPoint. Familiarity with GitHub.
- Basic understanding of the retail domain (customer analytics, merchandising, operations, finance, digital). Exposure to marketing, supply‑chain and other functional areas.
- Strong analytical thinking, problem‑solving, analytics storytelling, stakeholder engagement and team leadership skills.
- Ability to work with budgets and other resources in your role.
