Job summary

Ensono is seeking a Senior Db2 LUW Database Administrator to join the Global Implementation & Operational team. You will support Db2 LUW for multiple clients in a shared support model, coordinate with a global DBA team and client contacts, and participate in on-call 24x7 support and rotating shifts.

You will design, implement, upgrade and tune Db2 LUW environments, ensure security and governance, and mentor junior DBAs while applying automation and AI to improve efficiency.

Qualifications

• More than six years of Db2 LUW database administration experience.
• Excellent understanding of Db2 LUW technology (builds, upgrades, patching, migrations, troubleshooting multiple versions).
• Extensive database performance tuning experience.
• Deep knowledge of industry-standard, enterprise-class best practices for large database environments.
• Good understanding of UNIX/Linux and Windows platforms.
• Deep understanding of Db2 HADR and TSA/Pacemaker.
• Experience implementing, supporting and auditing database security.
• Experience with transaction log management, backup strategies and security configuration using LDAP.
• Knowledge of Db2 Connect and Db2 client connectivity.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and enhance, upgrade, and build new Db2 LUW environments.
• Work closely with clients daily on projects, troubleshooting, or consultations.
• Perform software installations, upgrades, and patches to Db2 LUW instances and servers.
• Define and maintain Db2 LUW standards and governance.
• Utilize industry standard technologies and methods to ensure integrity and recoverability of Db2 LUW databases.
• Analyze and tune instance/database configuration parameters, indexes, and SQL statements for performance.
• Serve as technical resource to business analysts, solutions development, and other groups responsible for Db2 LUW standards and design.
• Ensure Db2 LUW systems remain operational during infrastructure improvements (upgrades, migrations, consolidations, deployments).
• Assist in creating and maintaining documentation, runbooks, knowledge articles and diagrams.
• Assist with major issues and troubleshooting, serving as an escalation point for complex problems.
• Foster open communication between our ops DBA team and the client for alignment and problem-solving.
• Mentor and train junior and mid-level database administrators.

About the role and what you'll be doing:

The Senior Db2 LUW Database Administrator reports to the Db2 LUW Manager. You’ll be part of Global Implementation & Operational team, supporting the operational & migration activities of mission critical infrastructure of Ensono’s clients, delivering a responsive and exceptional support service for client events and requests. We are looking for a Senior Db2 LUW DBA to join our team to support multiple clients. Key responsibilities include:

• Primary role will be to support Db2 LUW for multiple clients in our shared support model.
• Coordinate with a team of global DBAs and with key client contacts to align efforts with the client’s needs.
• Work with clients on issues and requests related to Projects.
• Work proactively and review high level project requirements and deliverables.
• Be willing to participate in an on-call rotation for 24x7 support for incidents and outages.
• Be willing to work on a rotating shift schedule to align with client needs.
• Automate DBA best practices.
• Apply AI in secure ways to improve efficiency.

• Assist with major issues, technical challenges, and troubleshooting, serving as an escalation point for complex problems.
• Facilitate open communication and collaboration between our ops DBA team and the client, ensuring alignment and effective problem-solving.
• Mentor and train junior and mid-level database administrators.

Required Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

• Automation skills in Shell Scripting/Python/Ansible/Terraform (cloud) to automate routine maintenance activities.
• Experience using AI to increase efficiency in database environments.
• Knowledge of administering advanced Db2 database functions including federation, database encryption, Q-Replication and SQL replication.
• Knowledge of the ITIL framework.
• Database administration experience in a public or private cloud environment – Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Amazon Web Services (AWS), etc.
