JOB DESCRIPTION SENIOR CONSULTANT (OBSTETRICS & GYNAECOLOGY)

Department: Obstetrics & Gynaecology
Designation: Senior Consultant
Reports To: Medical Superintendent / Director / Clinical Head

Job Purpose

To provide safe, ethical and quality obstetric and gynaecological care, including management of routine, high-risk and emergency cases.

Key Responsibilities

1. Provide OPD, IPD and emergency consultation and treatment.
2. Manage normal and high-risk pregnancies and obstetric emergencies.
3. Conduct/supervise deliveries and perform approved obstetric and gynaecological procedures.
4. Provide pre-operative and post-operative care.
5. Ensure proper clinical documentation, informed consent and patient counselling.
6. Supervise and guide junior doctors and nursing staff.
7. Coordinate with Anaesthesia, Neonatology, Surgery, ICU, Blood Bank and other departments.
8. Follow hospital SOPs, infection-control practices, patient-safety standards and NABH requirements.
9. Participate in CME, training, clinical audits and quality-improvement activities.
10. Maintain professional ethics, confidentiality and patient rights.
11. Work within approved credentialing and clinical privileges.
12. Participate in emergency/on-call duties as assigned by the hospital.

Qualification

MBBS + MD/MS/DNB in Obstetrics & Gynaecology with valid medical registration and relevant clinical experience.
