Job summary

United Infrastructure is seeking an HV Cable Design Engineer to support its growing Transmission and Distribution workload in Vadodara. The role is office-based with flexible working options and offers a path to engineering management or technical leadership within T&D.

You will lead cable system design studies, prepare ratings, sizing, pulling and installation designs, and coordinate with suppliers and the procurement team to ensure safe, compliant project delivery across the full lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Proven experience with British and European design standards and codes.
• Experience delivering engineering outputs for cable construction activities including planning and delivery of works.
• Awareness of key Health and Safety impacts on HV cable construction contracts.
• Fluent spoken and written English.
• Ability to work maturely in a diverse team.

Responsibilities

• Lead the production and quality control of cable system design studies including reports and sizing.
• Prepare cable rating reports, bonding schemes and induced voltage calculations.
• Perform cable forces calculations and pulling design across installation scenarios.
• Generate Bills of Quantities and coordinate with suppliers and procurement.
• Review installation drawings and ensure constructability and safety by design.
• Interface with wider delivery teams and support operation during construction.
• Provide guidance to develop others and manage change within the team.

Job description

Summary of the position:

Due to significant growth across our Transmission and Distribution business United Infrastructureare seeking additional HV Cable Engineering resources to support our growing workload. The role is eligible for flexible working although it is expected that the role is office based.

The role will allow for the enhancement of a cable system designers experience and to take a lead role to deliver the full lifecycle of project delivery on a variety of HV Cable projects. The role will allow staff to determine if they favour a technical expertise or engineering management, business leadership career path. Both paths are supported from this role and can lead to advancements in T&D, UK or across United Infrastructure as a whole.

Purpose of the Position:

Ensure the design outputs assigned, delivered against the allocated programme and budget and to the expected quality. It is critical that this role works closely with the site operations team to ensure the safe and reliable delivery of projects.

Key accountabilities:

• Lead the production and quality control of UGC systems design studies to support construction and consultancy projects including:
• Cable System Design Summary reports.
• Cable Rating reports.
• Cable Bonding scheme and Induced Voltage calculations.
• Cable Forces calculations in different installations and operation scenarios.
• Cable Sizing calculations.
• Cable Pulling design and calculations.
• Cable Installation Design and review of drawings.
• Select cable system components and accessories and produce the Bill of Quantities for the project and tenders.
• Coordination with suppliers, review of products designs and type test certificates, and support procurement team for technical aspects.
• Interface with other the wider delivery teams and support Operation team during construction period.
• Ensuring the constructability and safety by design requirements are met in our deliverables.
• Provide guidance to the team as needed to help develop others within the team.Ensure the engineering management including delivery updates, change control and risk management

Skills and Experience | Essential:

Proven experience in working to British and European design standards and codes.

Experience of providing engineering deliverables to cable construction activities including the planning and delivery of the works.

Awareness of key Health and Safety impacts on HV cable construction contracts.

Fluent spoken and written English language.

Ability to work maturely in a diverse team.

Skills and Experience | Desirable:

• Experience in the use of Cable design software (CYMCAP & COMSOL).
• Experience in management of CAD outputs.
• Experience in working under CDM regulations as a designer
• Ability to drive is beneficial

Qualifications:

Bachelor Engineering Degree in STEM subject preferably with Electrical Engineering content.
