As a Software Engineer at Applied Materials, you’ll dive deep into ground‑breaking technologies—like machine learning and AI—to craft novel software solutions that solve our customers’ high‑value problems. Our Software Engineers are responsible for designing, prototyping, developing, and debugging software solutions for semiconductor equipment components and devices to ensure quality and functionality. You'll develop software documentation and test procedures, troubleshoot software problems, and communicate with internal customers to understand project requirements. As part of our team, you'll contribute your expertise in intricate systems, deciphering code, and anticipating software behaviors to ensure Applied remains the leader in the semiconductor and display sectors.

Our Team

The YTG group develops, builds, and ships advanced test systems for the display and packaging industry. These systems leverage high‑speed electron beam microscopes and custom electronics to acquire signals and images, enabling complex data analysis and image processing to detect defects in memory and processor chips. The software team controls the electron beam and acquires/processes data and images, collaborating across Germany and India.

Your Opportunity

Join us to shape the next generation of our products by driving end‑to‑end solutions that span software and hardware. You’ll collaborate with experts in Germany and cross‑functional teams in Bangalore to deliver customer‑focused outcomes, accelerate time‑to‑market, and uplift engineering efficiency.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Systems & Architecture Ownership: Lead design discussions and produce architecture artifacts for modules spanning software + hardware interfaces (device I/O, data acquisition, algorithms, GUI/UX).
  • Hands‑on Engineering (C++/Python on Linux): Implement performant, maintainable components and services; define clear interfaces/contracts; contribute to reviews and refactoring.
  • Build/Run & DevOps Collaboration: Partner with DevOps on CI/CD, artifact hygiene, and observability (logging/metrics/tracing); contribute to reliability.
  • Performance & Reliability: Design for resilience and rollback; strengthen test strategies (unit/integration/system).
  • Cross‑geo Collaboration: Work closely with engineering counterparts across globe.
Our Ideal Candidate
  • Solution‑First Mindset: Think beyond programming languages—own the customer problem and the end‑to‑end solution across software, hardware, and operations.
  • Strong Systems Design: Experience designing systems that integrate software + hardware (sensors, motion/controls, device drivers, embedded/RT interactions).
  • AI‑Assisted Development: Comfortable using AI‑assisted developer tooling and prompt‑based workflows to accelerate design documentation, code scaffolding/refactoring, test generation, and troubleshooting—while verifying outputs and following responsible‑use guidelines.
  • DevOps & Computing Curiosity: Keen to engage with CI/CD, artifact management, containerized build environments, and performance/compute trade‑offs.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Clear communicator who aligns cross‑functional stakeholders and documents decisions effectively.
