Senior BIM Engineer - Wet Utilities

Job summary

Dar seeks an experienced BIM Specialist/Engineer to develop, coordinate, and manage BIM models for wet utilities in infrastructure projects. You will produce 3D and federated models, run clash detection, and ensure BIM execution aligned with BEP standards.

You will collaborate with design teams, convert calculations into BIM-compliant models, perform quantity takeoffs, data extraction, and provide guidance to junior team members.

Qualifications

• BIM for infrastructure projects involving water, wastewater, and stormwater networks.
• BIM standards, BEPs, model management plans, and LOD matrices knowledge.
• Ability to produce reports, BIM documentation, and client-facing presentations.
• Experience coordinating multi-disciplinary models in consultancy settings.
• Exposure to international projects, especially in Africa or the Middle East, is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Create layouts, general arrangements, plans, profiles, sections using Civil 3D and Navisworks.
• Collaborate with design teams to convert inputs into BIM-compliant models and structured data.
• Perform quantity takeoffs, model-based analysis, and data extraction via BIM workflows.
• Provide guidance to BIM Modellers, CAD Designers, and junior team members.
• Participate in meetings, present BIM models to clients, and support coordination workshops.
• Ensure adherence to international BIM standards (ISO 19650, BIM protocols, QA/QC).

Bachelor of Civil Engineering/ Technology

Key Responsibilities :

• Develop, coordinate, and manage BIM models for wet utilities including potable water, sewer, stormwater, and highway drainage networks using BIM standards and project requirements.
• Produce 3D models, federated models, clash detection reports, and maintain BIM execution aligned with project BIM Execution Plans (BEPs).
• Create and manage layouts, general arrangements, plans, profiles, sections, and detailed BIM deliverables using tools like Civil 3D and Navisworks.
• Collaborate closely with design teams to convert engineering inputs, calculations, and sketches into BIM-compliant models and structured digital information.
• Execute quantity takeoffs, model-based analysis, and data extraction using BIM workflows.
• Provide technical guidance to BIM Modellers, CAD Designers, and junior team members working on utility models.
• Participate in project meetings, present BIM models to clients, and support coordination workshops for design resolution.
• Ensure adherence to international BIM standards (ISO 19650, company BIM protocols, QA/QC procedures).

Education and Professional Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering; Master’s in Water Resources Engineering/Environmental/Hydraulics Engineering is an advantage.
• 5–15 years of experience in BIM for infrastructure projects, especially water, wastewater, and stormwater networks.
• Strong experience in BIM and utility modelling platforms such as:
• Autodesk Civil 3D, Navisworks, InfraWorks, InfoWorks ICM, SewerGEMS, WaterGEMS, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, and other utility modelling tools.
• Experience preparing and implementing BIM Execution Plans (BEP), model management plans, LOD matrices, and coordinating multi-disciplinary models.
• Strong understanding of information management, digital workflows, clash coordination, and model-based design.
• Ability to produce high-quality reports, BIM documentation, and clear presentations for clients and internal teams.
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and ability to work in complex multi-disciplinary consultancy environments.
• Experience working internationally, especially in Africa or the Middle East, is an added advantage.
