Job summary

Borderless is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to design and scale critical backend systems for high-throughput financial workflows, including crypto/blockchain rails. You will lead architectural decisions, build robust APIs, and ensure reliability across integration points with banks, brokers, and partners.

You will work on a Node.js/Python stack, optimize data stores, and drive performance and observability improvements while mentoring junior engineers in a fast-growing fintech environment.

Qualifications

• 6–8 years backend experience with 2+ years ownership of architecture.
• Experience with high-transaction, low-latency systems.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems and system design.
• Production AWS and Google Cloud exposure.
• Crypto/blockchain infra experience highly preferred.

Role Overview :

We're looking for a Senior Backend Engineer who can architect, build, and scale critical backend systems. Youll work on high-throughput financial workflows, third-party integrations, and transaction-heavy systems - potentially including crypto/blockchain rails as we expand.This is not a ticket-closing role. This is a systems-thinking, architecture-owning role.

What Youll Do :

1. Design and own scalable backend architecture
2. Build high-performance APIs handling real-money transactions
3. Lead system design discussions and technical decisions
4. Architect reliable integrations with financial institutions, brokers, payment partners, and crypto/blockchain providers
5. Improve system resilience, observability, and fault tolerance
6. Optimize databases and reduce latency across services
7. Establish engineering best practices and mentor junior engineers
8. Handle production incidents and drive long-term fixes

Tech Stack :

1. Our backend is primarily built on Node.js, with Python used for select services.
2. We use Express.js and FastAPI to build scalable APIs.
3. Our data layer runs on PostgreSQL and MongoDB, with Redis used for caching and performance optimization.
4. We leverage Kafka and RabbitMQ for asynchronous and event-driven workflows.
5. Our infrastructure is hosted on AWS, with Docker and CI/CD pipelines enabling smooth deployments.
6. We design and maintain REST APIs and Webhooks for integrations.
7. Infrastructure : AWS / GCP (EC2, RDS, S3, Lambda, IAM, VPC and equivalent)
8. Containerization & CI/CD : Docker, automated pipelines
9. API Standards : REST, Webhooks, async callbacks
10. Security : OAuth2, JWT, encryption at rest and in transit

What Were Looking For :

1. 6-8 years of strong backend engineering experience with 2+ years leading architecture or owning critical systems
2. Deep understanding of distributed systems and system design
3. Experience building high-transaction, low-latency systems
4. Strong experience with database optimization and scaling
5. Production experience with AWS and google cloud infrastructure
6. Experience in crypto / blockchain / digital assets infrastructure is highly preferred

Domain Knowledge (Highly Preferred) :

1. Crypto / blockchain infrastructure
2. Wallet architecture (custodial or non-custodial)
3. On-chain vs off-chain transaction workflows
4. Stablecoins, token transfers, gas mechanics
5. Banking rails (ACH, SWIFT, RTGS, SEPA)
6. Understanding of compliance-sensitive systems (KYC/AML flows)
