Job summary

Alfa Laval Mid Europe GmbH is seeking a Senior Automation Engineer to lead the design and development of advanced industrial automation solutions using B&R, Siemens, and Rockwell platforms. You will define software architectures, architect scalable solutions, and collaborate with electrical, mechanical, data and process engineers to deliver integrated systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in industrial automation, with focus on B&R, Siemens, Rockwell platforms.
• Expertise in PLC programming for industrial machinery and structured text.
• Exposure to IEC 61131-3 standards is a plus.
• Hands-on experience with web-based HMI development using web technologies (OPC UA, HTML5, CSS, JavaScript).
• Strong understanding of software architecture, version control (Git, COPIA), and modular design.
• Experience with industrial communication protocols (OPC UA, ProfNet, Ethernet IP, Modbus).
• Proven track record leading automation software projects end-to-end.

Responsibilities

• Architect and maintain scalable software solutions for industrial automation.

• Create and maintain technical documentation including specifications and diagrams.
• Stay current with trends in automation, cybersecurity, and quality assurance.
• Conduct code reviews, mentor juniors, and drive continuous improvement in automation processes.
• Travel occasionally to Decanter main site in Søborg and customer locations.

Senior Automation Engineer Job Description Summary: We are looking for a Senior Automation Engineer to lead the design and development of advanced industrial automation solutions using B&R, Siemens, and Rockwell platforms. This role requires deep technical expertise in PLC programming, software architecture, and system integration.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement automation software using B&R, Siemens, Rockwell automation platforms.
• Define and implement software architecture standards for modular, scalable, and maintainable automation systems.
• Architect and maintain scalable software solutions for industrial automation systems.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including electrical, mechanical, data and process engineers to deliver integrated solutions.
• Support product field testing and training and support commissioning engineers as needed.
• Provide software maintenance support when required.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, including software specifications, architecture diagrams, and user manuals.
• Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies in automation and control systems.
• Conduct code reviews, provide technical mentorship, and support the professional development of junior engineers.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives in automation processes, tools, and methodologies.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, including safety (SIL, ISO 13849), cybersecurity, and quality assurance.
• Maintain and develop guidelines.
• There will be occasional travel, to both Decanter main site in Søborg, as well as customer locations.

Required qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in industrial automation, with a strong focus on B&R, Siemens, Rockwell platforms (B&R is advantage).
• Expertise in PLC programming for industrial machinery, structured text.
• Exposure to IEC 61131-3 standards will be an added advantage.
• Hands on experience on web-based HMI development using web technologies( OPC UA, HTML5, CSS, JavaScript).
• Strong understanding of software architecture, version control (e.g., Git & COPIA), and modular design principles.
• Experience with industrial communication protocols (e.g., OPC UA, ProfNet, Ethernet IP, Modbus).
• Proven track record of leading automation software development projects from concept to completion.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Experience with cloud-based automation platforms and DevOps practices in automation software development.

Preferred qualifications

• Certifications in functional safety, project management and industrial cyber security.
• Experience with C/C++, Python, or other high-level programming languages.
• Familiarity with IoT platforms, edge computing, and cloud integration.
• Knowledge of IIOT, digital twin technologies, simulation tools, and virtual commissioning will be an advantage.
