Job summary

Alfa Laval in Pune invites a Senior Automation Engineer to lead design and development of advanced industrial automation solutions using B&R, Siemens and Rockwell platforms. This role requires deep expertise in PLC programming, software architecture, and system integration.

You will collaborate with electrical, mechanical, data and process engineers, maintain documentation, mentor junior engineers, and drive improvements while ensuring safety and cybersecurity standards on global projects.

Qualifications

• Degree in Automation, Electrical, Computer Science or related field.
• 5+ years in industrial automation on B&R/Siemens/Rockwell.
• Expertise in PLC programming for industrial machinery (ST).
• Experience with IEC 61131-3 standards.
• Web-based HMI development using OPC UA, HTML5, CSS, JavaScript.
• Strong software architecture understanding, version control (Git, COPIA).
• Experience with industrial communication protocols (OPC UA, Ethernet/IP, Modbus).
• Proven track record leading automation software projects.

Responsibilities

Senior Automation Engineer

We are looking for a Senior Automation Engineer to lead the design and development of advanced industrial automation solutions using B&R, Siemens, and Rockwell platforms. This role requires deep technical expertise in PLC programming, software architecture, and system integration.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement automation software using B&R, Siemens, Rockwell automation platforms.
• Define and implement software architecture standards for modular, scalable, and maintainable automation systems.
• Architect and maintain scalable software solutions for industrial automation systems.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including electrical, mechanical, data and process engineers to deliver integrated solutions.
• Support product field testing and training and support commissioning engineers as needed
• Provide software maintenance support when required
• Create and maintain technical documentation, including software specifications, architecture diagrams, and user manuals.
• Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies in automation and control systems.
• Conduct code reviews, provide technical mentorship, and support the professional development of junior engineers
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives in automation processes, tools, and methodologies.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, including safety (SIL, ISO 13849), cybersecurity, and quality assurance.
• Maintain and develop guidelines
• There will be occasional travel, to both Decanter main site in Søborg, as well as customer locations.

Required qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in industrial automation, with a strong focus on B&R, Siemens, Rockwell platforms (B&R is advantage).
• Expertise in PLC programming for industrial machinery, structured text.
• Exposure to IEC 61131-3 standards will be an added advantage
• Hands on experience on web-based HMI development using web technologies( OPC UA, HTML5, CSS, JavaScript)
• Strong understanding of software architecture, version control (e.g., Git & COPIA), and modular design principles.
• Experience with industrial communication protocols (e.g., OPC UA, ProfNet, Ethernet IP, Modbus).
• Proven track record of leading automation software development projects from concept to completion.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Experience with cloud-based automation platforms and DevOps practices in automation software development.

Preferred qualifications

• Certifications in functional safety, project management and industrial cyber security
• Experience with C/C++, Python, or other high-level programming languages.
• Familiarity with IoT platforms, edge computing, and cloud integration.
• Knowledge of IIOT, digital twin technologies, simulation tools, and virtual commissioning will be an advantage.
