Job summary

SYSTRA India is seeking a Senior Architect (Underground) to lead architectural design for metro and underground stations, including concourse and platform planning, space programming, and finish quality. You will ensure compliance with NFPA 130, coordinate with MEP, TVS, and signaling, and drive multi-disciplinary design reviews across projects.

Candidates should have a relevant engineering degree and 23+ years of experience, with at least 7+ years in major underground/public transport projects.

Responsibilities

• Design Vision & Planning: define architectural language for underground stations, space programming for concourse and platform levels.
• Station Layout & Circulation: design complex vertical/horizontal circulation with NFPA 130 compliance.
• Multi-Disciplinary Integration: lead CSD process resolving clashes among architectural finishes, MEP, TVS, and signaling.
• Technical Specifications: approve high-performance materials for underground environments.
• Urban Integration: manage entrances, ancillary buildings, shaft locations with minimal surface impact.
• Stakeholder & Authority Management: secure approvals from fire departments, municipal bodies, heritage committees.
• Construction Support: oversee design-to-site transition, ensure finishes align with D-walls and station boxes.

Currently, we are bidding for Metro projects across India. The position of Senior Architect (Underground) is the key position in these BIDs.

Missions/Main Duties

• Design Vision & Planning: Defining the architectural language for underground stations, including space programming for concourse and platform levels to optimize passenger experience.

• Station Layout & Circulation: Designing complex vertical and horizontal circulation systems (stairs, escalators, lifts) ensuring compliance with NFPA 130 and local fire life safety norms.

• Multi-Disciplinary Integration: Leading the "Combined Services Drawings" (CSD) process to resolve clashes between architectural finishes and MEP, Tunnel Ventilation Systems (TVS), and Signaling.

• Technical Specifications: Approving high-performance materials for underground environments, focusing on fire resistance, durability, acoustics, and moisture control.

• Urban Integration: Managing the design of station entrances, ancillary buildings, and shaft locations to minimize impact on the city’s surface-level fabric and utilities.

• Stakeholder & Authority Management: Securing approvals from fire departments, municipal bodies, and heritage committees for underground works and surface structures.

• Construction Support: Overseeing the transition from design to site, ensuring that architectural finishes and fit-outs align with the structural execution of D-walls and station boxes.
