Job description

Senior Application Engineer- DC Torque Tools
Role Summary

This role owns the application side of our DC torque tool business. You take an inquiry from the first customer conversation through tool selection, BOM, proposal, order execution, commissioning and after-sales support. We expect you to work independently, get the selection right the first time, and stay with the customer until the job is closed.

Key Responsibilities
Customer discussions and inquiry review
  • Lead technical and commercial discussions with customers to understand the application, project scope and technical specifications.
  • Review inquiries, RFQs, tender documents, drawings and specifications, and pull out the application requirements that drive tool selection.
  • Work with customers, OEMs and suppliers to clarify requirements and develop customized bolting solutions.
Tool selection and BOM
  • Select DC torque tools on your own, based on torque range, bolt size, application conditions and accessibility constraints.
  • Finalize complete, technically validated BOMs covering tools, controllers, cables, sockets, reaction arms, extensions and accessories. Nothing missing, and nothing that doesn't fit the joint.
  • Check solution feasibility before it goes into a quotation.
Proposals
  • Prepare technical proposals, compliance statements, application studies and techno-commercial inputs for quotations.
  • Resolve customer queries within agreed timelines.
Execution, commissioning and support
  • Support each order end to end: inquiry evaluation, tool selection, order execution, commissioning and after-sales service.
  • Conduct customer demonstrations, application trials, site commissioning and operator training.
  • Troubleshoot DC torque tools, controllers, tightening processes, communication interfaces and application-related issues.
Tightening process and integration
  • Support configuration of tightening strategies: torque-angle parameters, tightening sequences, data traceability and quality monitoring.
  • Support integration of DC torque tools with PLCs, robotic systems, production lines and other industrial automation interfaces.
Coordination, documentation and ownership
  • Coordinate with Engineering & Design, Service, Procurement, Project Management and other teams to keep projects on schedule.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation: BOMs, application reports, commissioning reports and troubleshooting records.
  • Take full ownership of assigned applications: clear communication, on-time execution, customer satisfaction and proper project closure.
Qualification & Experience
  • B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical, Electronics or Instrumentation Engineering.
  • 6to 10 years in application engineering, technical sales support or product support for industrial tightening or bolting tools.
  • Hands-on exposure to DC electric torque tools and their controllers, in either assembly or industrial bolting.
  • Proven experience handling RFQs and tenders on your own, and delivering technical offers and BOMs that did not need rework later.
Skills & Requirements
Technical
  • Solid grasp of bolted joint fundamentals: torque, angle, preload, friction, joint type and tightening sequence.
  • Able to read mechanical drawings and tender specifications and extract what matters for tool selection.
  • Working knowledge of DC tool controllers, tightening strategies (torque control, torque-angle) and data output for traceability.
  • Familiarity with industrial communication interfaces (for example Ethernet-based protocols, fieldbus) and basic PLC integration.
  • Comfortable with MS Office and with viewing CAD drawings.
Behavioral
  • Explains technical points clearly to customers, shop‑floor operators and internal teams.
  • Works independently and owns the outcome, not just the task.
  • Pays attention to detail. A wrong BOM costs us time and money.
  • Willing to travel to customer sites for trials, commissioning and training.
Preferred Experience
  • Prior work with DC torque tools and controllers in automotive, heavy engineering, wind energy or general assembly applications.
  • Experience with robotic or automated tightening cells and PLC integration.
  • Experience with tightening quality systems: torque-angle monitoring, traceability and data logging.
  • Experience designing customized or special-application bolting solutions.
  • Exposure to techno-commercial documentation in industrial B2B sales.
