IPSD Application Engineers work in Caterpillar Aftermarket & Customer Solution organization, belong to S&CS (Service & Customer Support) team. This position is 100% focused on third party business, with the responsibility of supporting Dealers & Distributors A&I capability. Application engineer will primarily work with third party OEM power system and control team on new product development, and internally collaborate with sales, product group & engineering team, product support, etc.
W** hat **** You Will Do:
- Understand customer’s business, leading OEM technical relationship becoming a trusted power system advisor. Drive quality, innovation and new business through application collaboration and installation services.
- Execute customer projects through the A&I process, delivering integrated engines to quality, time and cost targets making timely decisions on approval risks. Alert customer to mandatory and recommended improvements.
- Manage engine spec development, supporting customer and engine design change impact, supporting any A&I related CPI projects. Liaise with customer personnel at all levels.
- Tune the engine performance at OEM site in collaboration with OEM power and control team to achieve the machine performance target.
- Complete assessment of machine design against A&I guidelines and complete design calculations. Work with customer on machine design improvements to enhance performance, reliability and cost utilizing existing engine designs where possible.
- Conduct Genset site installation check for Critical EP Projects (for example, Data Center projects).
- Capture customer/ market sector technical requirements, create FRD’s from VOC and support development to translate into standard or bespoke product offering.
- Critical customer information, drawings and production intent photos and data recorded, key actions successfully followed through with customer and machine recommended for production approval with engine warranty cover.
- Liaise with engineering to create applications guidelines that can be practically checked during machine development. Including A&I Guides, Installation Audit Forms, tests procedures.
- Provide technical sales support to help win new business.
- Track emissions exempt engines at customers ensuring compliance.
- Ability to capture, collate, engine diagnostic data using specialist tools (CANAPE/ DATALOGGER /EST/ET, etc.). Interpret results and draw conclusions and implement permanent solution.
- Evaluate & Contribute to the design of new products and processes setup.
- Support and drive Dealer & Distributor A&I team capability improvement through Distributor Excellence review, responding to A&I technical queries.
- Fully represent customers in Engineering and Program teams.
- Help support other customer field and service issues.

- Problem Solving: Uses varying problem-solving approaches and techniques as appropriate to resolve customer issues during A&I phase.
- Project Management: Be able to manage project timeline, identify risks and develop risk mitigation plan, ensure project to be delivered to quality and in time.
Required Qualifications:
- Competent in use of Standard business tools including, Excel, Power Point, Word, Outlook, Teams, etc.
- Speak fluent English and excellent in reading, writing.
- Independently manage customers programs with minimum supervision.
- Well understanding of engine knowledge, performance, aftertreatment, NVH.
- More than 8 years of engine experience including application, design, performance, validation, etc.
- Bachelor degree or above in Engineering
Desired Qualifications:
- Transmission and hydraulic knowledge.
- EP Knowledge, especially Data Center experience.
- External customer facing experience.
Additional Information:
- Able to travel globally up to 50% of time to meet customer expectation and support sales.
- Willingness to visit customer site at short notice (less than 24 hrs) to investigate customer critical field issues.
This position requires working onsite five days a week.
