Job summary

Caterpillar is hiring for an engineering role within its Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD). The position focuses on delivering engine system solutions from concept to production, collaborating across global teams to ensure performance, value, and durability in our engine portfolio.

The role emphasizes designing, documenting requirements, prototype testing, and coordinating changes while maintaining cost and reliability targets. Onsite work is required with relocation options available.

Qualifications

• Degree in accredited Engineering, Mechanical/Design or related discipline
• 3–5 years of relevant experience
• Onsite five days a week with relocation available

About IPSD:

Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L engines that not only power Caterpillar machines, but also power over 5000 other applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. Job Summary:

Caterpillar’s 11-18L Engine Platform Team, within IPSD-L, is focused on delivery industry leading engine systems for Caterpillar and Third-Party customers through the Cat and Perkins Brands. We enable customer success by delivering products that meet or exceed expectations for performance, value, and durability within our portfolio of engines.

Role Definition

Designs, develops, builds, and implements new components, products, technologies or services from concepts to production

Responsibilities:

• Develop and document functional requirements and convert them into detailed design specifications. Participate in buy-versus-build evaluations for product components.
• Support product design and development activities, including prototype builds, testing, design validation, manufacturability reviews, and launch readiness.
• Analyze production, engineering, and quality data to identify root causes, risks, constraints, and improvement opportunities.
• Coordinate engineering changes, product transitions, and new product introductions while minimizing manufacturing disruption.
• Research new materials and competitive products. Organizing, coordinating, and executing the building, testing, and analysis of prototypes.
• Support supplier development and performance improvement activities with supply specialists and buyers. Guide drafting and testing specialists as needed.
• Contribute to prepare proposals, cost estimates, and technical reports.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve product issues and integrate customer and business requirements.
• Manage and deliver projects that achieve cost targets, reliability goals, and program timelines
• Design and develop products that satisfy customer expectations for cost, performance, durability, and quality.
• Foster collaboration within the team and with global partners and communicate results effectively across stakeholders like global customers, process partners, and other business units.

Skill Descriptors

Products and Services: Knowledge of major products and services; ability to apply knowledge of product and service appropriately to diverse situations.

Degree Requirement
